Holiday Inn Express Norwich

8.0
Very Good See all 6 reviews

Just 20 minutes from Royal Norwich Golf Club and a straightforward run into Norwich city centre, Holiday Inn Express Norwich makes a reliable base for a Norfolk region golf tour. You're close enough to get to the first tee without drama, but you've also got the city on your doorstep for food, drinks and a bit of atmosphere once the clubs are back in the boot.

That best thing about using this hotel for a Norfolk itinerary is the simplicity. For societies and mixed-ability groups, it lets you keep everyone together, keep costs sensible and build a multi-course trip without constantly changing hotels. Norwich is also a good shout if you've got non-golfers in the group, as there's plenty to do while the rest of you are chasing a score around the county's links and parkland courses.

In short, it's a no-fuss option when the priority is getting out to several courses, sleeping well and starting the day with breakfast sorted. The location works particularly well if you're planning to play a few rounds across Norfolk and want somewhere central to come back to each evening, rather than packing and unpacking every other day.

Who is this for? Golf societies and groups who want convenience, free parking and a straightforward base for a Norfolk tour, plus couples pairing golf with a city break.

Who is it best for? Groups planning a multi-course itinerary around Norwich who prefer modern, consistent chain-hotel comfort and easy access to restaurants and pubs after the round.

Accommodation at Holiday Inn Express Norwich

Following a recent refurbishment, the rooms at Holiday Inn Express Norwich are set up for an easy stay after 18 holes. Each one includes an en-suite shower room, a 32-inch LED TV with Freeview, blackout curtains, a choice of soft or firm pillows and tea and coffee facilities. It's clean, practical and exactly what most golf groups want when they're out early and back late.

Parking is free, which is a big plus when you've got clubs, trolleys and kit to unload. Breakfast is included and served early, so an 8am tee time doesn't have to mean skipping a proper start to the day. If you need it, ground-floor smoking rooms are available, and the whole place has a relaxed, easy-going feel that suits golf groups who just want a comfortable bed and a cold pint at the end of the day.

The Great Room is the hotel's main hub, combining the lounge and restaurant in one open-plan space. It's an easy spot to gather the group for a drink, catch a match on one of four large HD TVs and swap stories from the round. The bar is licensed and open 24 hours, well stocked, and in summer the heated patio is ideal for sitting outside with a beer and talking through the day's birdies and disasters. Coffee makers, ice and vending machines are all on hand, and the lounge sofas are comfortable enough that you'll actually want to use them rather than hiding in your room.

For those who like to keep moving off the course, the hotel has partnered with David Lloyd next door. Guests can use the gym and leisure facilities for a small daily fee, which is a handy add-on if you fancy a swim or a sauna before heading into Norwich for dinner.

Rooms were clean & comfortable, parking was ample, bar was massively overpriced & breakfast left a lot to be desired!

We picked this hotel because Norwich county centre hotels don’t have much parking, especially for large vehicles that our group mostly has. So it was 10m taxi to town which was no problem. Hotel staff were very helpful, beer was good and breakfast buffet perfectly adequate. Overall it served our purpose well.
