South CourseThe South Course is widely regarded as La Manga's premier layout, and frequently hosts prestigious regional and national events, including the Spanish Open and European Tour Qualifying School. Originally designed by Robert Putman prior to opening in 1971, the South was reworked by the great Arnold Palmer in the early 1990s, and was sharpened up in 2004. As a result, this is now a fair but thoroughly exacting test of golf.
Designed by: Robert Dean Putman
Opened for play: 1971
Did you know? The par three at the 12th, is the hole that witnessed the oldest ever man to achieve a hole in one.
Previously hosted: Spanish Open (1975), PGA Championships, European Tour qualifying schools
White: 7,107 yards, SSS 74
Yellow: 6,700 yards, SSS 73
Blue: 6,276 yards, SSS 77
Red: 5,620 yards, SSS 73
Signature Hole – No. 18: Par 5, 452 yards (White Tees)
The closing hole is unforgiving. Drives must be hit around a fairway bunker and two large bunkers which flank both sides of the fairway. The green, although large is very well protected and its multi-tiered nature requires a confident putt.
La Manga's North Course presents a different test, with tighter fairways and larger greens, all bordered by the resort's famous palm trees. While this course may be for the higher handicapper, it makes up for its lack of challenge, which can be found in La Manga’s other two courses, by priding itself on its beauty, boasting some very attractive holes. It is much hillier than the south and many of the fairways are lined with palm trees, while imaginative greenside bunkering is sustained throughout.
The back nine certainly presents a better set of holes than the front, with the par four 13th leaving you with a tee shot that requires a confident club choice and a 18th hole which is satisfying to say the least. The putting surfaces have recently been reconstructed in accordance with USGA design principles, and many have severe slopes and plateaus, that are tricky to say the least. Accuracy and sound course management are the most valuable traits around the 6,291 yard North, which is a gem that will be particularly enjoyed by the creative shot-makers out there.

Did you know? The North course was completely refurbished in 2001
White: 6,291 yards, SSS 71
Yellow: 5,937 yards, SSS 69
Blue: 5,668 yards, SSS 73
Red: 5,428 yards, SSS 71
Signature Hole – No. 18: Par 5, 340 yards (White Tees)
The 18th is a lovely finishing hole, with the hotel pool in the background reminding you that your post round refreshments are not far away. In fact, only a short walk back to the clubhouse bar.
The West course is unquestionably the pride of La Manga, with an amazing variety of holes. A beautiful course with spectacular scenery everywhere you turn, it provides a demanding test of golf requiring a first-rate game management. Frequent changes in elevation and fast greens, can cause bad shots to be punished severely.
The West Course is also a genuine championship layout, underlining the fact that La Manga has no weak links. Measuring in at 6,529 yards, the West winds its way gently through the idyllic pine trees, and has more severe slopes than its neighbours. The West is in fact the favourite of many repeat visitors, particularly because of its unique setting and outstanding views. The fairways are tight, so it is often prudent to play conservatively from the tee, while the West also boasts a collection of fabulous par-3s.
The pearl of the front nine is the 9th which has an uphill tee shot, before the hole bends backwards at right angles into a ravine to the front and a lake at the back. The back nine boasts a lovely streak of four closing consecutive holes, including a par three 16th with little margin for error, before ending with a magnificent 18th.

Opened for play: 1996
Did you know? The former Formula 1 World Champion, Nigel Mansell, labelled the 18th on the West Course as ‘a great finale’ stating that ‘the magnificent view from the tee is always something to look forward to’.
White: 6,310 yards, SSS 74
Yellow: 6,050 yards, SSS 72
Blue: 5,610 yards, SSS 75
Red: 5,166 yards, SSS 73
Signature Hole – No. 18: Par 4, 409 yards (White Tees)
Although the 18th tee is a bit of a walk up a hill, it gives plenty of anticipation for what is a fantastic closing hole. Once at the top you are greeted with a tee shot at the top of a small mountain overlooking a wide fairway-a 200 yard carry and the wind looking to play its part. An intimidating shot. However, what makes this hole truly special is the view for miles distant, the landscape spreading beyond the La Manga complex, over the countryside and into the sea. A final picturesque image for a remarkable course.
The practice facilities at La Manga are second to none. The Golf Practice Centre is seen to be one of the finest in Europe, while the Leadbetter Golf Academy is known for its innovative and creative teaching techniques. The new academy was founded by David Leadbetter himself, a coach to countless PGA Tour, European Tour, LGPA Tour and Champions Tour players. It has two swing rooms and four teaching studios for groups.
On top of this, La Manga possesses a beautiful par 47 “pitch and putt” course ideal for perfecting your short game. The course is well designed with bunkers, water hazards and excellent greens for putting.
At The Clubhouse
La Manga contains two Clubhouse restaurants. Bar 57, which can be found at the main golf clubhouse, offers golfer’s breakfast, lunch and dinner, with free Wi-Fi and a terrace overlooking the golf courses. It’s open all year from 7:00 to 19:30. By the West Course, is La Princesa Restaurant. It serves typical Spanish cuisine with a great choice of wine and lovely views of the course and surrounding pine woodland. Also open all year round, for breakfast and lunch.
The courses at La Manga are always cared for, allowing the holes to be in optimum condition. The resort also benefits from an efficient shuttle bus service. It is no wonder that La Manga has won many awards, such as Europe’s and Spain’s Best Golf Resort in the Today’s Golfer Travel Awards in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
However, while the golf at La Manga is certainly the heart and soul of the club, La Manga also offers plenty of other sport facilities. This includes tennis courts as well as football, cricket and rugby pitches. A junior club is also available- an ideal place for your children to have fun in a friendly, secure environment while you enjoy the great variety of courses La Manga has to offer.La Manga’s accommodation is also first class. The luxurious Hotel Principe Felipe offers breathtaking views of La Manga’s courses, pools and gardens. There are also plenty of apartments nearby in Las Lomas village if you prefer greater space and independence.
Situated at the mountain-side fringes of the La Manga resort, the Las Lomas Village boasts 111 self-catered apartments and townhouses, as well as 20 serviced rooms, that provide quality 4* accommodation, allowing guests to take full advantage of all that the resort has to offer.
The apartments and townhouses are decorated in a modern Mediterranean style, and although they offer self-catered accommodation, the hospitality is not basic; luxurious touches like marble flooring, DVD player and outdoor grilling area are evident throughout.
The serviced Deluxe Rooms are the equivalent of a 4* hotel room, but are located within the village itself. Charming features include the traditional terracotta floors and Mediterranean décor, and a granite bathroom, while the terrace or balcony views of Las Lomas street or the surrounding mountains are a joy to behold.
The superb range of accommodation in the village means that there is an option to satisfy every demand, and allowing visitors to relax to the full and explore the fantastic resort.
La Manga is the ultimate destination for families with small children, who can enjoy all the fun and games in the Junior Club. The resort is a mecca for sporting enthusiasts. Golf Courses - We played all three courses on consecutive days, North/South/West, at a similar time as last year. Once again the greens and bunkers were in superb condition but the fairways are not as they were. It was clear they were not being watered as the ground was solid, particularly on the South and West. There was evidence of deterioration in the grass and they were not comparable with some courses further north, e.g. La Galiana. Most of our players live in Spain and are well aware of the general conditions and weather patterns.
Clubhouse - The North / South clubhouse is very comfortable and a good place to announce prizes etc. However the prices are high...€2.60 for a coffee! It just means we did not stay long. The West Course small restaurant / bar was closed and we had to find an alternative venue.
Las Lomas Townhouses - An excellent location, well equipped, maybe a little scruffy in places but generally well liked and good value. The included breakfast in the nearby cafe is adequate.
Location - Easy to find via the motorway system, set in a beautiful location with sea and mountain views. Two of our non golfing members went walking and really enjoyed the scenery.
Overall Verdict - 7 out of 10 this year
YGT Rating - Great service and prices. Will be using again.
All the courses at La Manga are extremely well cared for and the layouts are fantastic. There is such a great selection of interesting holes and the golf never gets boring. If the courses were all that La Manga had to offer I would still visit for my golf holidays. The North & South Courses are suitable for most abilities and the West is more of a test and perhaps should be left to more experienced players! All of the golf courses are beautiful and from most of the holes you are treated to stunning views.
The clubhouse staff provided excellent service and there was a great atmosphere in the place...clearly everyone in there were enjoying their golf holidays as much as we were! The staff were very welcoming and there were great views of the 18th hole of the North Course and the surrounding area.
We thought we got an absolute bargain for our La Manga golf break and want to thank Your Golf Travel for all the hard work that went into organising our golf trip. When you compare YGT prices to ‘off the shelf’ prices you realise the value for money that can be had. The service from both Your Golf Travel and La Manga was exceptional and the speed of response to any query was dealt with very efficiently.
I just returned from a golf holiday in La Manga and thought I would let everyone at Your Golf Travel know how great it was...it was made even better thanks to the fact that I was crowned champion at the end of the golf break.
Our accommodation was excellent. We stayed at the La Manga Las Lomas Village and although it was a little remote, there were plenty of shuttle buses running between courses, bars and the apartments. We enjoyed the option to cook for ourselves and the room was very well equipped and comfortable. All in all the accommodation was perfect for a golf break.
We played the North course first which was an absolute joy to play. It wasn’t too long for the shorter hitter but still a challenge for the better players thanks to the undulating greens which demanded accuracy from the fairway and a sharp short game.
The West course was the most difficult and having recently been hollow cored and top dressed was even trickier. Get round in your handicap on this bad boy and you have played well.
The South course is the Championship course and rightly so, I don’t need to comment any further. Simply fantastic!
All in all we had a great weekend golf trip and wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
Just back from La Manga, a great holiday! Thanks for your recommendations.
The boys were in heaven watching the girls European tournament. (Too scared to hit a club at the range when the girls were practising....they were all big hitters). We will all miss Luigi’s restaurant, ate there every night – brilliant. (as did the European girls teams funnily enough!) Cheers
I have just returned form a brilliant holiday in La Manga and wanted to thank you for the great service I received from all the staff at the company, particularly, Dan S (what a beautiful voice he had) and Tom who greatly assisted me. Everything went very smoothly and I was very impressed with the courses and accommodation in La Manga. I am sure we will go back at some point.
I am now looking at where we can go next year (hoping to golf in May and October) - possibly Portugal, so if you have someone who has been and can offer me some guidance, then please let me know who I can talk to. Thank you once again. I shall recommend the company to my golfing friends. Regards.
Got back from La Manga on Sunday night & had a fantastic time. Golfing was first class & we couldn't have picked a better week for the weather. Loved the courses, accommodation & the resort in itself. We will be looking to book with you again around November time so if you have any ideas on destinations within a 2 to 3 hour flight time, we will be happy to listen. Many thanks for all your help.
Just a quick email to let you know that the lads really enjoyed the trip. They were very impressed with the place and they said that the service was second to none. Thanks again for your assistance with the booking and I look forward to dealing with you again in the future. Kind Regards,
