Lanzarote Golf

Lanzarote Golf offers one of the most distinctive rounds in the Canary Islands. Set above Puerto del Carmen, this Ron Kirby design cuts through dramatic volcanic terrain with wide Atlantic views, natural elevation changes and a layout that asks plenty of your course management from the first tee.

The course sits on a rugged hillside above Puerto del Carmen, the island's most popular resort town. Kirby, whose Canarian work also includes courses on Gran Canaria, shaped the routing around the natural landscape rather than against it. Rather than forcing the land to fit a resort template, the layout works with the hillside, which gives the course its character and its challenge. Stone walls that have stood for generations cross the fairways. Black lava waste areas frame the holes. The result is a course that feels genuinely rooted in its surroundings.

Its location is a practical bonus too. The course sits less than 10 minutes from Lanzarote Airport and within easy reach of Puerto del Carmen's hotels, bars and restaurants, making it a straightforward choice for anything from a single round to a full golf break.

Who is this for?
Golfers staying in Puerto del Carmen, couples after winter sun golf and groups looking to add a memorable round to a Lanzarote trip.

Who is it best for?

Lanzarote Golf plays to a par of 72 across 6,266 metres from the back tees, with 18 holes arranged as two returning nines. The scorecard splits in an interesting way: the outward half plays to a par of 35 with a single par five, the 416-metre 4th, while the back nine is the longer half at par 37, offering three par fives and three genuine chances to post a score if you can keep the ball in play long enough to take them.

The course covers 125 acres of hillside and the elevation changes are constant throughout. Kirby used the natural contours of the volcanic landscape to build a routing that keeps you thinking from the first tee to the last green. There are no throwaway holes here. The terrain demands attention, and the penalty for a wandering mind tends to be a ball lost in the lava.

One of the most memorable stretches comes from the 11th to the 14th, where the design leans hardest into the island's character. Low-lying stone walls, the kind you see dividing fields and terraces all across Lanzarote, angle across the fairways at various points and force a genuine decision about the best line of play. Do you carry the wall on the direct route, or play away from it and accept a longer approach? It is the kind of strategic question that good course architecture should ask, and Kirby handles it with real intelligence.

The black volcanic waste areas that frame so many holes are not just decorative. They are penal, visually striking and a constant reminder of where you are playing. The crunch of volcanic gravel underfoot, the warm basalt in the afternoon sun, the Atlantic catching the light from the higher tees: it is a course that feels different from the usual holiday round, both visually and strategically.

The practice facilities include a driving range, a putting green and a dedicated short-game area, giving you every opportunity to warm up properly before heading out. A TaylorMade club hire service is available for those travelling without their own equipment, and the on-site Caddy Master team knows the course well and can help you navigate it more effectively.
