Mendip Spring Golf Club is set in the rolling North Somerset countryside, with straightforward access from Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Bath via the M4 and M5.
You've got two options on site. The main draw is the 18-hole par 71 championship course, a test that makes you think on the tee and rewards a tidy iron game into well-defended greens. Expect noticeable elevation changes and smartly placed bunkers that put a premium on shaping the right shot, not just swinging hard. Designed by Terry Murray, the routing takes full advantage of the natural terrain, with strategic bunkering and protected greens that punish loose approach play.
If you're short on time, or you're bringing a mixed-ability group, the 9-hole layout is a handy alternative for a quicker loop or a confidence-building warm-up before taking on the full 18.
It's a strong pick for societies because the location keeps travel simple, and you can build an easy weekend around Bristol or Bath for food, pubs and places to stay. The club maintains quality playing surfaces and a welcoming atmosphere for visiting golfers, making it well worth a look if you want a countryside course that feels like a step up from the everyday municipal round.
Who is this for?
Golfers planning a South West break who want one solid championship round in a scenic countryside setting, plus a shorter 9-hole option for mixed groups or a warm-up.
Who is it best for?
Societies coming from Bristol, Bath or Weston-super-Mare and mid-to-low handicappers who enjoy elevation, strategy and well-protected greens, where sensible course management beats brute force.

The Brinsea Championship Course at Mendip Spring Golf Club is an 18-hole par 71 layout that offers a challenging and scenic golfing experience. Designed in 1992, the course stretches to 6,555 yards from the back tees, providing a robust test for golfers of all skill levels.
The back nine presents some challenges, and the 11th hole, known as "Kinheil," has been the undoing of numerous golfers. With out-of-bounds lurking on the right and water hazards lining both sides of the fairway, reaching the small, well-protected green becomes a daunting task.
