3 Nights, 2 Rounds
- 3 Nights Bed and Breakfast at Praia D'El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort
- 1 Round at Praia D'El Rey
- 1 Round at West Cliffs Golf Course
3 Nights, 2 Rounds
Set on Portugal's Atlantic edge in the Oeste region, Praia D'el Rey is a proper two-course resort, the sort of place where you can base yourself for a long weekend and never feel like you're repeating the same round. The original Praia D'el Rey Golf Course plays through pines and sandy dunes with the ocean in view on plenty of holes, while West Cliffs Golf Course, opened in 2017, is the wilder, more exposed sibling, routed through dramatic coastal terrain where the wind can turn a good score into a great story.
It's also an easy one logistically: you're around an hour from Lisbon Airport, so it suits short breaks, winter sun escapes and first-time Portugal trips where you want top-level golf without a long transfer. The 5-star Marriott Hotel sits right on site with sea views, a full spa setup and enough dining options to keep groups happy after the round.
When you're done with golf, you've got beaches on your doorstep and classic fishing towns nearby. Peniche is a good shout for a wander and seafood, and the surrounding coastline is exactly the sort of scenery you hope for when you book an Atlantic resort.
Who is this for?
Groups and couples who want a simple, high-quality Portugal break: stay in one hotel, play two standout courses and still have spa, beach and good food on tap. Also suits societies and friends' trips where you want variety in the golf without moving hotels every other night.
Who is it best for?
Golfers who like coastal, links-leaning golf and don't mind a bit of wind keeping you honest, plus anyone wanting an easy Lisbon transfer for a three to five night trip. Mid to low handicappers will get the most out of both courses, but there's enough room and sensible tee options for higher handicaps to enjoy themselves too.

The championship seaside links is visually stunning, and tremendously exciting to play thanks to the great variety of holes that the natural landscape provides. The front nine has a distinct parkland accent, as it runs in and out of the pine trees, whilst the back nine is home to some of the best links golf in mainland Europe.
The signature holes - 13, 14 and 15 - run along the Atlantic coastline, providing fantastic views of the sea, dunes and back towards the pine forest. Course architect Cabell B. Robinson has designed Praia D'El Rey to be the complete golfing challenge, with bold, deep bunkers, undulating greens, and natural rugged sand border areas which contrast sharply with the lush green fairways. The course was recently rated the 7th best in Europe by Golf World magazine, while the International Association of Golf Tour Operators voted Praia D'El Rey the best on the continent.
There is also a Golf Academy on site, with 24 individual driving range bays. The main putting green is one of the biggest in Europe (900m2) and there is a fairway practice bunker adjacent to driving-range bays, all specifically designed to allow you to hone your skills.
Golf Magazine recently rated Praia D'El Rey as the 13th best golf course in continental Europe.
The West Cliffs course is a recently opened course, designed by the Dye Designs Group, and is on the same site as the famed Praia D’El Rey Resort situated only 1 hour North of Lisbon. The course plays as a stunning links course along the Silver Coast and is already being talked about as the best golf course in Portugal. Occupying arguably some of Europe’s most impressive golfing real estate, this incredible stretch of coastline is home to a host of fantastic golf courses but West Cliffs looks set to become the jewel in the Silver Coast’s crown.
The 5-star Marriott Hotel sits at the heart of Praia D'el Rey, perched on a bluff with sweeping views over the Atlantic and the resort's original golf course. The hotel offers 179 deluxe rooms, including 11 suites, each with a private balcony or terrace to make the most of the coastal setting. Rooms are finished to Marriott's usual standard, with individual climate control, premium bedding and linen, satellite television and those ocean or golf course views that make early tee times easier to stomach.
The leisure facilities are comprehensive and genuinely useful if you're spending more than a couple of nights. There's a dedicated tennis centre with seven courts, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, jacuzzis, sauna, steam rooms and a well-equipped fitness centre. The spa is a serious operation, offering everything from Thalasso therapy and Vichy showers to aromatherapy, facials, hydrotherapy and a full menu of massage treatments. It's the kind of place where non-golfing partners will happily spend the day, and where you'll want to book in after walking 36 holes across two contrasting coastal courses that can feel very different depending on the wind.
Dining spans the relaxed Atlantico Bar and Grill, perfect for post-round beers and casual meals, through to the Romy fine dining room for something more formal. The resort's location also puts you within easy reach of Peniche and other coastal villages, where you'll find excellent seafood restaurants and a glimpse of traditional Portuguese life away from the fairways.
For golfers, the setup works. Both courses are on your doorstep, the hotel understands the rhythm of a golf trip, there's proper club storage and the staff are used to coordinating early breakfast and tee times. The facilities mean you can build a proper break around the golf rather than just ticking off rounds, which matters if you're bringing partners or want a few days to unwind between courses.
Play Praia D'el Rey and West Cliffs on your next Portugal golf holiday.

Lovely hotel, excellent room and staff. Isolated with no access to the beach from the hotel. No nearby restaurants not owned by hotel and expensive food & limited menu. Excellent breakfast but poor evening buffet.

The course was very nice but was very wet. It appeared that they had been over watering the fairways and it was very difficult playing off such damp fairways. Sometimes you were better off being in rough!!!

A cracking golf course. A little rough around the edges compared to a very top course and rain earlier in the week had made it very soft in places. However, the course was generally in good shape. Usual pitfalls of resort courses (nobody repairing pitchmarks and very slow rounds when later in the day) but still represents excellent value for money and thoroughly enjoyable.
