Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial and Spa

9.0
Excellent See all 4 reviews

Right in the thick of Marrakech, Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial is a five-star base that mixes Moroccan character with the slick comfort you'd expect from Sofitel. You're close to Jemaa el Fna and the medina, so you can do the proper Marrakech stuff between rounds, souks, gardens, rooftop sunsets, then retreat back to a hotel that feels calm and grown-up.

Head up to the higher floors and you can catch the Atlas Mountains on a clear day, which is a nice reminder that this isn't just a city break with golf bolted on. The look is classic Marrakech, tilework, carved wood and warm tones, but the experience is modern and easy, which matters after 18 holes in the heat.

If you're the type who wants championship golf by day and a bit of energy by night, this location is the big win. You're not marooned out at a resort, and you're not sacrificing facilities either. Royal Golf, Amelkis and Al Maaden are all a short transfer away, so you can be out on the fairways early and back in time for a hammam or a drink by the pool.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want to play Marrakech's standout courses while staying in the heart of the city rather than out at a resort. Couples and groups looking for culture, nightlife and dining alongside their golf, and anyone who values a central location with quick access to both the medina and the airport.

Who is it best for?
Travellers who enjoy the buzz of a city break and want to explore Marrakech's restaurants, rooftop bars and historic sites between rounds. Ideal for golfers who prefer a luxury hotel base with full spa and pool facilities over a quieter, course-side resort, and for those building a trip that mixes golf with sightseeing, shopping and Moroccan cuisine.

Accommodation at Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial and Spa

All 346 rooms and suites come with a private balcony or terrace, many overlooking the gardens, pool or mountains. Standard features include air conditioning, safe, minibar, satellite television and marble bathrooms, with enough space and comfort to unwind after a round in the heat. The layout is generous, the beds are excellent, and the balconies make a real difference when you want to sit out with a drink at the end of the day. I'm a big fan of a balcony on a golf trip, it's the easiest 19th hole going.

The outdoor pool is the centrepiece, a long, palm-lined stretch of water with a sun terrace that's ideal for post-golf recovery. Needless to say, the outdoor pool does a lot of heavy lifting after a hot round. There's also an indoor pool, jacuzzi and a full spa offering hammam treatments, massages and beauty services. Seven floodlit tennis courts, including one clay surface, are available if you fancy a hit, and the fitness centre is well equipped. For golfers, the hotel can help organise tee times and transfers, and the concierge team knows the local courses well enough to offer useful advice on conditions and speed of play.

Dining is strong. L'Orangeraie serves refined international cuisine in a bright, elegant setting, with a menu that shifts between French classics and Moroccan-inspired dishes. The breakfast spread is generous, and the evening service is polished without feeling stiff. The Lawrence Bar is the spot for cocktails, a wood-panelled, low-lit space where the bartenders know their way around a Negroni or a mint-infused gin and tonic. If you're venturing out, Le Comptoir on Avenue Rechouda is one of the city's best-known dinner spots and worth booking ahead.

Location is the headline. You can get out to Royal Golf, Amelkis and Al Maaden with a short transfer, then be back in time to head into the medina for dinner. The medina's main square is close enough to walk in cooler months, or a quick taxi when it's hot. For a long weekend of golf and culture, or a longer stay where you'll actually use the spa and pool properly, it's a strong all-round pick. The combination of city access, mountain views, strong dining and a genuinely relaxing pool and spa setup makes it one of the best options in Marrakech for golfers who don't want to be stuck out at a resort.

Include Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial on your next Marrakech Golf Break, ask the team about tee times and the best-value course combinations.

Good Hotel, may not be the first choice for a bunch of single males on a golf trip as it is not the most lively but for my wife and I it was excellent. Great staff who were attentive, efficient and friendly; in a central location within easy walking distance of the old and new town with several excellent local restaurants.

A luxury hotel, beautifully decorated, with an amazing pool complex. Plenty of sun beds, sun loungers and deck chairs. Gorgeous gardens and planting. The downside is that we found this hotel too expensive generally. Pool snack bar prices started at 170 dirham (£16) and bottles of wine were 370 dirham (£35) upwards. Good quality and lovely breakfast. You can walk into the medina from here but takes over 20 mins to get to the main square Jemaa el fnaa and you have to cross several busy roads 😳. If you’ve been to Marrakesh, you’ll know how challenging that is!

the package provided 3 nights at sofitel and 2 games of golf was excellent value, problem was at check out. YGT had not made the payment for our group's rooms and we were threatened with paying the full rate ourselves, on top of our package payment to YTG. it took between 2 and 3 hours to sort out, and over £30 in phone calls to YTG. our final day in marrakech was severely compromised and it was fortunate that we had a late flight. no compensation has been offered and we would hesitate to book thru Your golf travel again
