Southerndown is perched high above the Ogmore River Valley, and actually looks down on the celebrated links of Porthcawl. The magnificent views of the Bristol Channel are matched by the amazing course; Southerndown is almost unique, in that there are no trees or water hazards, just bracken, gorse and treacherous bunkers.

0800 043 6644Originally laid out by Willie Fernie in 1883, Southerndown has been revisited by some of the game's great architects, notable Herbert Fowler, Willie Park and most recently, Donald Steel.
The course is tough yet also extremely endearing and will be enjoyed especially by lovers of seaside golf. While not the longest, Southerndown boasts a set of short holes that are the envy of most, while the closing hole, with its dramatic split-level fairway, will live long in the memory.
The great views and superb golf course are the foundations of this coastal gem, so be sure to include Southerndown in your next golf tour of the South Wales coast.
Southerndown Golf Club is ranked as one of the best courses in Wales
We had perfect weather the day we played but can imagine with a bit of breeze it would play a lot harder. Remove the sheep and it would be perfect.
Hidden GEM!
Unfortunately this round was spoiled by very high winds
Heavy rain during the round spoilt it a bit and my party came off after 12 holes so cant really comment.
Excellent. Very natural with sheep wandering around the fairways. Course well prepared and challenging.
Bunkers were difficult
Excellent golf course
Great course, well protected by the weather. A real challenge enjoyed by everyone.
Authentic experience of a links style course, great views. Traditional friendly feel to the course
Excellent, great challenge, good condition
What a fantastic position, only a shame the weather was not quite so kind to us, blowy and cold and overcast. Loved this course also and would come back and play again, hopefully in warmer conditions; we're used to the wind blowing! Again great staff and a beautiful clubhouse and facilities. The course is a very good challenge and again in great nick.
