Step onto the turf at Wallasey Golf Club and you're not just ticking off a links round, you're playing a course with proper golfing pedigree. Set on the Wirral Peninsula, this classic English links has been testing golfers for well over a century and it still asks the same question every time: can you flight it, shape it and keep it out of trouble when the wind gets up?
The headline bit of history is its link to the Stableford scoring system, which alone makes it a great shout for a UK golf break with a bit of meaning behind it. But it's not a museum piece. Expect firm, fast fairways, pot bunkers, subtle undulations and greens that reward patience more than heroics. The course itself is a no-nonsense links test where positioning matters more than power. You'll face classic bunkering that bites, and greens that punish the reckless. This is proper links golf, where the ground game is your friend and where every round feels connected to the place's history without ever feeling dated. The views across the Dee Estuary and towards the Welsh hills only add to the sense of occasion.
If you like your golf traditional, strategic and a little bit untamed, Wallasey delivers. If you're the sort of golfer who enjoys seeing how your game holds up on a proper links, this place will stay with you. Fancy building it into a Wirral golf weekend? Wallasey pairs brilliantly with other North West links and makes a strong centrepiece for a short, high-quality tour.

First conceived by St. Andrews legend Old Tom Morris, the golf course at Wallasey has since been reworked by Hawtree, James Braid and most recently the links golf guru Donald Steel.
The club was founded by members from Hoylake, whose own course was becoming overcrowded, and the links to Royal Liverpool do not end there; in 1930, when the legendary Bobby Jones won the Open Championship at Hoylake, he qualified at Wallasey, and whilst there, he posed for a portrait by local member J.A.A. Berrie which still hangs proudly in the clubhouse.
With easy access from Wirral to the other local courses and to Southport, Wallasey is well worth the visit. Bobby Jones was awarded life membership in 1931 in recognition for his contribution to golf, and his ties with the club itself.
After your round the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the clubhouse awaits. Visitors often praise the helpful and friendly staff who contribute to a superb overall experience. It's the perfect place to relax unwind and reflect on your game. Whether you're enjoying a post-round drink or a hearty meal the clubhouse provides a comfortable setting to soak in the club's incredible heritage and share stories of your day on the links.

Lovely course but the fairways are extremely tight and the rough is very thick. We lost heaps of golf balls!! A member we spoke to before we hit off suggested that if we can't see our ball from the tee to hit a provisional ... he was 100% right! TBH we found this course set up to be too difficult for visitors who don't know their way around - even 1 yard off the fairway often resulted in a lost ball. A group of visitors behind us actually gave up after the front 9! Also the office or the pro shop stuffed up with our booking and didn't have electric push trollies for us to use - not the end of the world but a bit annoying and harder for me.
