Nestled on Mauritius's east coast, The Bay Club at Anahita captures everything that makes the island special: turquoise lagoons, mountain backdrops and year-round sunshine, all wrapped around a championship golf course that's become one of the headline golf experiences in Mauritius. Ernie Els was handed a spectacular canvas here, and he's delivered a layout that weaves through coastal forest and along the water's edge, offering a test that's every bit as demanding as it is photogenic.

The resort sits within a 213-hectare estate on the island's sheltered east coast, where the trade winds are gentler than the exposed south and the lagoon stays calm most of the year. It's the sort of place where you can knock out 18 holes in the morning, spend the afternoon on the beach or by the pool, then settle in for a proper meal without ever leaving the property. The vibe is relaxed but polished, with enough facilities to keep non-golfers happy and a layout that rewards golfers who can manage their game rather than just grip it and rip it.

Who is this for?
Golfers chasing a bucket-list course in paradise, couples looking to combine serious golf with luxury and downtime, and groups or families who want a resort that caters to all abilities and interests.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who'll appreciate the strategic challenge and coastal drama of the Ernie Els layout, plus anyone seeking a high-end Indian Ocean golf holiday with world-class facilities and year-round sunshine.

The Els Course at Anahita

Built in accordance with USGA construction principles, the Els course is a marvel of modern golf course design, blending seamlessly with the natural terrain. Spectacular rocky outcrops combine with beautiful indigenous trees to create a sublime setting for championship golf, and the Anahita course is a true delight.

From the tournament tees the layout reaches a hefty 7,372 yards, more than a match for low handicappers, but there are five distinct sets of tees which mean that the course is set up to welcome golfers of all standards. The three closing holes, with views over the coastline, are among the most spectacular that can be experienced on any golf holiday course, while Anahita also boasts a 300-metre grass range and a charming Mauritian style clubhouse.

Accommodation at The Bay Club at Anahita

The Bay Club sits at the centre of the Anahita estate, offering 70 luxury residences that range from one to three bedrooms, each with its own plunge pool and views over either the lagoon or the golf course. Inside, you'll find everything set up for a comfortable stay: complimentary WiFi, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, air-conditioning, bathrobes, safes and separate living areas that give you space to spread out after a round.

For larger groups or families, the three, four and five-bedroom villas take things up a level. These standalone units come with private swimming pools, fully equipped kitchens, outdoor patios and landscaped gardens, all positioned on the edge of the golf course for added privacy and direct access to the fairways. The villas match the residences for quality and finish, making them ideal if you're travelling with a bigger party or simply want that extra exclusivity and room to breathe.

Off the course, you've got all the five-star extras for a proper fly-and-flop week: a wellness centre with massages and body treatments (including beachside champas where you can unwind to the sound of the waves), a gym, swimming pools, tennis courts and a beach made for easy days. If you fancy getting out on the water, there's snorkelling, kayaking and glass-bottom boat trips, plus easy excursions over to Île aux Cerfs, a postcard-perfect island just offshore, which is ideal when you've finished your round and just want to switch off.

Dining is led by Restaurant Origine, an elegant à la carte venue that focuses on refined, locally sourced cuisine in a stylish setting. For a more personal experience, the 'dial-a-chef' service lets you bring a private chef into your villa or residence, where they'll design a bespoke menu and cook it in your own kitchen, perfect for special occasions or simply a relaxed evening in after a long day on the course.

This is my wife and my second visit to Anahita, and we were welcomed ‘back home’ personally by name by the many staff who we had met on our previous stay in 2017. The Prestige Suite apartments are superb. We were given the same apartment we had on our first visit, looking out onto the 9th green. The apartment is huge at 180 sq meters (2,000 sq ft) including the covered patio with dining area, plunge pool and sun lounger area. Everyone is super friendly and the quality of service is outstanding. The four restaurants are all brilliant, with the main one, Origine, having many chefs predominantly cooking your meal in front of you to order. The Mauritius winter time (our summer) is great for golf, as the temperature is still in the mid 20’s and on average, less rainfall than their summer. We only had one significantly wet day in the 14 day holiday. We played golf every day except the wet one, with alternate rounds on Anahita and Ile aux Cerfs (on the island). All in all, a fantastic holiday and we will definitely be returning to Anahita in the next two or three years.

We had an apartment with a seaview which was extremely high standard. Many of the villas are owned privately, so it doesn't feel like a normal Hotel. The food at the restaurant was exceptionally good. The staff were very friendly.

First time at Anahita. The hotel and facilities are nice but not as good as expected. Location is fantastic and the food was delicious. The private beach at Ile aux Cerfs is awesome. And of course, the staff is very friendly.

Great rooms, spacious and smart, very comfortable overall, the staff are fantastic and very helpful, make guests feel special. The food is excellent ( we were half board) probably better in Origine and Il Forno than Bliss but overall - excellent. But be prepared for very high drink prices, wine is overpriced and eye-watering at times! But the quality of the place is really good and the setting on the beach is spectacular- we would return so that says it all.

Lovely apartment with lots of space. Gardens and grounds beautifully maintained. Restaurants at the resort were limited. One buffet and two a la carte. The hotel was very quiet and at times the restaurants lacked atmosphere.

Anahita as a location was perfect for our holiday, nothing was a problem for the staff, the food quality was excellent in all restaurants and the facilities were truly 5 star.

I was injured in my finger so the score did not matter. I just enjoyed the round and the sorroundings.

Long course but with few obstacles & quite wide fairways. It is a 30 minute minibus journey to & from Long Beach but it is well organised.

Another great golf course. Much more forgiving than ils aux Cerfs but made difficult by its length. The tapas in the clubhouse post round was fantastic and the facilities were excellent. Met by former tour pro Thomas Levet after one round. Very welcoming and friendly.

Tee choices are important as obviously determines course difficulty and speed of play. Great course. What would help everyone is if they look at handicaps and try to take that into account for pairing up tee times ie not pairing low handicaps with beginners

A typical Ernie Ells course , long and repetitive. We arrived at a number of holes with a sense of deja- vu. We felt the other course we played was much much better Transport from airport to hotel was far too small , we asked and received a larger vehicle for the return

Amazing experience from arrival. Service minded staff, great range and practice facilities. Added bonus with snacks and cold beverages at the range as well. Great conditions and great course with amazing views

Amazing course! It is very long and challenging but lovely wide open fairways that require good strategic approaches depending on whether you are a long hitter or not. I would advise checking the plans for competitions before booking as they do tend to have a few events that can restrict your tee times.

Course was very wet, barely playable. No buggies on fairway pull only for a couple of days
