Set in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, AP Cabanas Beach & Nature is an adults-only base that suits golfers who want sunshine, great food and easy tee times without the noise of the bigger Algarve resorts. You're around 40 minutes from Faro Airport and just outside Tavira, a brilliant little town for a post-round wander and a proper seafood dinner.
Course access is the big win here. You're about 20 minutes from Monte Rei, 7 minutes from Benamor and 15 minutes from both Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima. That means more time on the range or by the pool and less time stuck in transfer traffic. Four very different tests, from Jack Nicklaus Signature parkland to coastal layouts running along the estuary, all accessible without eating into your morning or afternoon.
The hotel leans into its surroundings in a good way, with a solar-powered boat taking guests across to the beach and menus that make the most of local fish, citrus and Algarvian favourites. Back at the hotel you've got two outdoor pools, a heated indoor pool, a rooftop bar for sunset drinks over the lagoon and a spa that's ideal after 18 or 36 in the heat. With 340 rooms, there's space to spread out, and the adults-only policy keeps the atmosphere calm throughout.
Who is this for?
Couples, groups and societies who want a quieter Algarve base, quick transfers and easy evenings in Tavira.
Who is it best for?
Anyone building a multi-course itinerary around Monte Rei, Benamor, Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima, plus golfers who like an adults-only hotel with spa time and a strong rooftop bar.

The hotel has 340 modern rooms with a calm, grown-up feel. Expect light interiors, good storage for golf gear and a balcony or terrace as standard. Choose pool views for a livelier outlook or lagoon-facing rooms for the quietest mornings. Suites add more living space, which is handy for longer stays or groups sharing. All rooms come with air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes and enough room to unpack properly, something often overlooked in resort hotels.
Food and drink is easy here, with three restaurants and two bars. The rooftop bar is the go-to for a pre-dinner drink, especially at sunset over the Ria Formosa. It's perched high enough to take in the full sweep of the lagoon, and it's the kind of spot that works equally well for a nightcap after exploring Tavira. The main restaurant offers buffet and à la carte options, leaning heavily on regional ingredients, fresh fish from the coast, citrus from local groves and traditional Algarvian desserts like Dom Rodrigo and Pudim de Laranja. A second restaurant focuses on Mediterranean and international dishes, while the third is a more casual poolside option for lighter bites and lunch. The two bars keep things simple, one by the pool for daytime drinks, the other on the rooftop for evening views. Both stock a solid range of Portuguese wines, local beers and classic cocktails.
For recovery, you've got the AP Elements SPA included, with sauna, Turkish bath and Jacuzzi. Treatments are available at an extra cost if you want to go full reset between rounds. Two outdoor pools and a heated indoor pool cover you year-round, plus a well-equipped gym if you like to keep moving. The gym has cardio machines, free weights and resistance equipment, and it's rarely crowded. Sun loungers, parasols and poolside service are all standard, and the layout ensures there's always a quiet corner if you want one.
Tavira is 10 minutes away by car or taxi, and it's worth the trip. The town has managed to avoid the overdevelopment that's affected other parts of the Algarve, and its old quarter, with cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and a castle dating back to Moorish rule, feels genuinely historic rather than recreated for tourists. The riverfront is lined with restaurants serving grilled fish, octopus salad and cataplana, and the dessert selection, particularly Dom Rodrigo (almond and egg sweet) and Pudim de Laranja (orange pudding), is some of the best in the region. Evening trips into Tavira are popular with groups and couples alike, and the town's relaxed pace makes it easy to spend a few hours wandering before heading back to the hotel.

From pick up at the airport to drop back at the airport this was the most organised trip ! The Hotel Ap Cabanas Beach was picked for me by Harry Hewitt at Your Golf Travel. Really lovely atmosphere, food was amazing & plentiful. Rooms are comfortable & cleaned daily. Plenty of sunbeds & sitting areas for everyone. Felt relaxed as soon as we walked in.

Sorry to say, having been 4 x at this Hotel this visit was more than disappointing ! In the corridor where our rooms were located and in the room when flushing the toilet, the smell of sewage was overwhelming and even worse in the Rooftop bar. The choice of food in the buffet was appalling so, after the first night, we resorted to the A la Carte restaurant which was superb. No music or entertainment in Rooftop bar. Will never return here. Such a shame the standard has gone down so much as it is a lovely Hotel in a great location ! For sure you will not wish to post this review !

Very good hotel, convenient for the 3 courses we played, if there was a minor downside the hotel does not have a lounge, they have a large communal area in reception.
