Arbroath Golf Links

10.0
Excellent See all 1 review

Perched on the Angus coastline, Arbroath Golf Links offers Scottish links golf in its purest form. The course plays out on firm, springy turf when conditions allow, with sea air, pot bunkers and natural undulations asking you to keep the ball down and think your way round rather than simply swing hard. If you enjoy a running approach and the occasional "that wind's changed again" moment, you'll feel right at home here.

Arbroath's history is a big part of the appeal. Three Open Champions helped shape the layout and between them they won the Claret Jug eleven times. Old Tom Morris, a five-time champion, laid the foundations, Willie Fernie (Open winner in 1883) added his influence and James Braid, another five-time winner, brought his strategic eye to the routing and bunkering. You can see that pedigree in how the course uses the land and asks for sensible angles into the greens.

Just outside Arbroath, it's easy to reach for a quick break, a society day or as part of a wider Angus and Fife itinerary. Wind is a constant companion, shifting through the day, so club selection becomes as much about feel as yardage. The turf rewards the low runner and punishes the loose approach, which is proper links golf in a nutshell. Include Arbroath Golf Links on your next Scottish golf tour if you want a proper links test without the fuss.

Arbroath Golf Course

Designed originally by Old Tom Morris in 1877 the course was updated by Willie Fernie in 1907 and then in 1931 the great James Braid did a re-design.

The course is a true test of skill and strategy, with challenging bunkers and burns that require precision and accuracy from golfers of all levels. Dunes run the length of the course on the seaward side which means the wind is always a factor.

But Arbroath Golf Club is not just about the golf. The clubhouse offers a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere, where golfers can unwind after their round with a drink and delicious food. With its friendly staff, excellent facilities, and stunning location, Arbroath Golf Club is a must-visit destination for any golfer looking for an unforgettable golfing experience in Scotland.

Great traditional old links golf course. Not the longest, but very playable. Great fun, stunning Par 3s. Definitely worth a visit.
