Golf Courses at PGA Aroeira Lisbon
Aroeira No.1
Aroeira No.1 opened for play in 1973, having been designed by Frank Pennink. Since then, the course has steadily built up an impressive reputation, culminating with the award of the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997 and more recently the International Portuguese Amateur Championship Gentlemen & Ladies (2010 & 2011). From the championship tees, Aroeira No.1 reaches 6,609 yards, and set amidst some 900 acres of beautiful pines, is a stunning location for a game of golf.
Signature Hole: Hole 8, Par 3, 190 metres (208 yards) (White Tees), SI 3
The highlight of Aroeira No.1 course is the par 3, eighth hole which amasses to 208 metres. At stroke index 3, this is a particularly challenging hole and requires a long iron to a green with a remarkable inclination, which slopes sharply to the left and is protected by a large bunker on the right.

Aroeira No.2 Course
With the inauguration of the second course in the year 2000, Aroiera was confirmed as one of Portugal's premier golfing destinations. Aroeira No.2 was conceived by Donald Steel, the man responsible for so many outstanding projects both in the UK and abroad, and has been earmarked for future Portuguese Opens. The course winds its way around several lakes, and with a variety of tee markers on offer, it remains playable for golfers of all standards.
Signature Hole: Hole 11, Par 5, 190 metres (208 yards) (White Tees), SI 6
The raised tee on the 11th requires a tee shot onto a narrow fairway with trees on both sides and a slight dogleg to the left. A slight draw would suit this hole well. The approach shot gives a quite stunning view onto a green closely protected by water and bunkers to the front and to the left.
Aroeira has an excellent golf academy, where you can seek the advice of the expert PGA professionals or simply work on a few of the game's finer points.

For a course that was supposed to have been closed for 4 months last year for refurbishment, you struggle see what they did. They seem be investing time and labour on No.1 course. Starting point for course now, moved to 13th hole as build new hotel/clubhouse. No practice facilities when you arrive, not even a warm up net. No practice green to putt on ( we used 18th par 3 green). It’s a good designed course which if in better condition and they finished build club house and practice areas, might be good one day. At moment would a avoid, go play No.1 course or even better, Quinta do Peru which only 30 minutes away.

There was a competition on the 'other' course so the shared clubhouse used by both courses was closed to us. We had to make do with a container unit in a field for changing, signing in etc. No food, very limited drinks, no buggy going with drinks (in 30+ degrees temperature), not even any chairs to sit on - we had to wait for an hour standing up for our transfer back to the hotel.

There was.no pro shop to start. It was no communicated to us that the driving range was somewhere else, so we started with no warm up, snacks, or drinks. Course was sludgy (it had a heavy downpour). Paths were tired, and badly signposted. Compared to the other two it was like playing a public course - not pga. They should not use that label as it is setting them up for disappointes guests.

we were told that we should actually play on 1 as it was the better conditioned course at that moment in time. sadly this wasn't really the case as it was in average condition with sand all over most of the fairways. clubhouse very strange but the food there was very good! one of our groups golf clubs got lost by BA and this club didn't have any rental clubs which we deemed completely unacceptable. they gave us a free push trolley as compensation. we hadn't realised that our booking didn't include buggies (our mistake as we didn't read the booking confirmation) and they only had 1 buggy left which they insisted we hired for $40. we knew it would be the weakest of the trip but we thought it underwhelming. If your group mostly consists of single figure handicaps I would give this a miss as it is pretty standard fare., you would be fare better off playing Torre or Dunas twice and skipping this place.

we actually played Aroiera 1, as they had us booked into that course, despite the voucher saying 1. We tried to find Aroiera 2 but couldnt find it. it was not well signposted and did not have a club house.the clubhouse and food/drink offering was ok at A 1 that aside, the golf on Aroiera 1 was pretty good, and the condition of the course was good.
