Torre is Sergio Garcia's first course design and a serious new reason to head to Portugal. Set on the Alentejo coast on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, it is the second layout at Terras da Comporta, joining the award-winning Dunas Course to make this a genuine two-course destination.

Just over an hour south of Lisbon, Torre slots neatly into a long weekend or a longer Comporta stay. Ryder Cup legend Garcia has drawn heavily on Real Club Valderrama, and it shows. Fast-running fairways, compact undulating greens and bunkering placed to catch the half-committed swing all reward a plan over a big drive. It is a distinctly Iberian test where thinking your way around matters more than raw length.

The routing runs across free-draining sandy ground and weaves through dense umbrella pines, so the round feels immersive and full of theatre without losing the raw Comporta character that makes the resort special. Dunas is the open, rugged counterpart. Torre moves the mood into the trees for a more sheltered, more intimate round, built with the same commitment to sustainability and minimal disruption. Signature holes, clever use of elevation and subtle green complexes will keep low handicappers honest, while mixed-ability groups on holiday can still enjoy every hole.

Whether you are returning to Comporta or seeing it for the first time, Torre delivers a modern, world-class round with Garcia's competitive edge running through every shot.

Who is this for?
Golfers who love plotting their way around a strategic, shot-making layout and want to play a fresh Sergio Garcia design in a stunning natural setting, from low handicappers chasing a real test to mixed-ability groups who value playability and scenery.

Who is it best for?
Couples, friends and societies planning a Lisbon-based long weekend or a Portugal golf break, and anyone looking to pair Torre with the Dunas Course for two contrasting rounds in one resort without complicated travel days.

Golf Courses at Torre Course at Terras da Comporta

Torre Course

Torre Golf Course at Terras da Comporta is one of the most eagerly awaited new openings in Europe — a course shaped by a Major winner, designed to challenge the thinking golfer, and set in one of Portugal’s most naturally rich and unspoilt coastal regions. While the neighbouring Dunas Course, designed by David McLay-Kidd, brought acclaim with its expansive, links-style routing, Torre is Sergio Garcia’s vision realised: intimate, exacting and undeniably memorable.

Torre makes exceptional use of the region’s free-draining soil and native landscape. The routing guides players through a tapestry of pine forest, sand-scrub clearings and low-lying valleys that have been carefully preserved to avoid unnecessary earthworks. Garcia’s philosophy was clear: let the land lead the design. As such, Torre feels natural, authentic and perfectly balanced.

The course plays to nearly 7,200 yards from the back tees but offers multiple teeing options to suit all levels. Its standout characteristic is the way it demands strategic thought rather than raw distance. Fairways are generous but rarely forgiving — a misplaced drive can leave a poor angle into the cleverly contoured greens, which are compact, often raised and well-defended by deep bunkering or sandy waste areas. It's a style of golf that rewards the cerebral and punishes the careless — exactly the kind of test Garcia relished as a player.

The Valderrama influence is clear throughout. Holes like the par-4 4th and the par-3 15th pay homage to Spanish course architecture, requiring precise distance control and creative short-game flair. The par-5 9th is a true standout — a sweeping dogleg framed by umbrella pines with a green complex that tempts the bold. Meanwhile, the closing stretch from 16 through 18 is both dramatic and photogenic, providing the perfect crescendo to the round.

Facilities & Amenities

While the dedicated Torre Clubhouse is currently under development, envisioned as a central social hub with a private room for events , the resort's commitment to excellence is evident. Expect world-class practice facilities, mirroring the Dunas Course's extensive 300+ meter driving range with 50 bays and dedicated short-game areas including putting and chipping greens.

High-quality dining options will also be an integral part of the Torre experience, whether integrated directly into its clubhouse or easily accessible within the broader resort complex, building on the success of the Dunas Course's Salicórnia restaurant. A well-stocked Pro Shop is also anticipated, offering golf apparel, equipment, and souvenirs.

The Wider Comporta Experience

The wider Comporta region enhances the appeal. Nestled on the pristine Alentejo coast of Portugal, just an hour south of Lisbon, the Torre Golf Course is ideally situated on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve. The most convenient international gateway is Lisbon Airport, approximately 1.5 hours away by private transfer. While car hire is highly recommended for exploring the charming local villages and stunning beaches, transfers can be arranged.

Known for its laid-back charm, unspoilt white sandy beaches (such as Praia da Comporta and Carvalhal Beach), and local seafood, Comporta offers golfers the chance to unwind off-course with the same ease they enjoy on it. Explore iconic sites like the Cais Palafítico da Carrasqueira (stilt pier), embark on dolphin watching trips in the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, or enjoy activities like horseback riding through rice fields and pine forests.

Accommodation options, including upcoming resort hotels and local boutique stays like The Pearl Troia, Quinta Da Comporta - Wellness Boutique Resort, and Sublime Comporta, make this an ideal choice for both group getaways and couples’ escapes.

Commitment to Sustainability

From an environmental perspective, Torre has been built with long-term sustainability at its core. The use of treated wastewater for irrigation, minimal turfgrass footprint, and retention of native vegetation are part of a strategy to preserve the site's natural beauty. These efforts also ensure year-round playability, with sandy soils draining quickly after rain and fairways remaining firm and fast. The Dunas Course has already been recognized as "Europe's Best Eco-Friendly Golf Facility", a testament to the resort's overarching commitment.

A Vision of Prestige

Complementing the acclaimed Dunas Course, Torre completes Terras da Comporta’s transformation into a bucket-list 36-hole destination. The two courses offer different philosophies: where Dunas embraces wild openness and width, Torre tightens the lens, demanding shaped shots and mental discipline. Together, they deliver a complete and contrasting golf experience in one of Europe’s rising golf hotspots.

Torre Golf Course is not just Sergio Garcia’s first design — it’s a course with Top 100 aspirations, rooted in elite architecture and surrounded by one of Portugal’s most desirable natural landscapes. Early visitors will be among the first to experience what’s already being hailed as one of Europe’s finest new layouts.

Good golf course - very picturesque. In good condition, greens and fairways good, staff very helpful. Facilities not good. Glorified container as pro-shop. Very limited/non-existent food ( which had to be brought in). A shame as a course like that does need some adequate facilities

much harder than Dunas with smaller greens and no run off areas to speak of. sergio garcia must have been in one of his angry moods when he designed it. no clubhouse but we did know this prior. staff all great and drinks buggy comes and find you if you call them. a lovely test but just not as good as Dunas which is understandable

Utterly outstanding, one of the best if not THE best new courses in Europe. Again an absolute must for anyone who loves the game of golf and like Dunas with 6 tees there is a great challenge for every standard of golf. Cannot recommend highly enough and by the way THE best practice facilities I have ever played on in 50 years of golfing. Worth the entrance money on its own. Get their early

Superb course. lives up to our expectation. everything about it was great. At the moment though, there is a very small clubhouse with no changing facilities and a big tent with the pro shop and some further F&B the course was fantastic though, and well worth the visit!
