Right, if you're putting together a golf break in Ayrshire and fancy something beyond the big-name Open venues, Belleisle is well worth a slot. Just outside the town of Ayr on Scotland's west coast, it's a public course that feels like a proper local gem, offering a strong test and excellent value without any fuss.
Set across gently rolling parkland, Belleisle mixes mature, tree-lined holes with smart bunkering and greens that tend to run true in season. It's not a brute-force track either. You'll score best by putting the ball in the right place off the tee, then hitting tidy approaches into well-defended targets. There's enough variety to keep everyone interested, with doglegs that make you think and a back nine that opens out nicely as the round builds.
The big draw is how straightforward it is. As a public course, it's usually a straightforward tee time to secure, with none of the formality you can run into at private clubs. Green fees are kind on the wallet and the welcome is friendly. If you're building an itinerary around Ayr, Troon and Turnberry, Belleisle is a smart way to add another quality round without stretching the budget.
Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a high-quality, accessible round on Scotland's west coast, particularly those exploring Ayrshire beyond the Open Championship venues or building a multi-course itinerary in the region.

Designed in 1927 by James Braid, the course is stretched through the magnificent beeches of Belleisle Park, and is a genuine test of golf. The parkland course's main characteristic is a succession of long par-4s, often demanding safe negotiation of the serpentine-like Curtecan Burn.
Only two par-4s are below 400 yards, and with gems like the short 17th, there is no excuse for missing Belleisle. It may not have the reputation of its neighbours in Troon and Turnberry, but the fact that many professionals choose to come to Belleisle to hone their skills here is testament to the course's quality.

Belleville Park was the final game of our trip and the most enjoyable. Parkland style with some long holes, good layout, greens in good condition, would definitely return.

We had a great time at Belleisle. An ideal first day experience on our tour - course in good condition and greens too but not too difficult. Accuracy of the tee and well struck approaches to greens were well rewarded

Turned out that the course was not a private members club so was always very busy. It was still in acceptable condition but bar facilities were very basic.
