The Glasshouse Hotel sits right on the Garavogue River in the centre of Sligo and, if you like hotels with a bit of personality, you'll get it straight away. The building is designed to mirror a ship at dock and the wall-to-wall glass makes the most of its riverside spot, with views over the bridges and the town as it goes about its day.
Step inside and it's a definite change of pace from the more traditional, country-house feel you'll find in parts of the west. Think bold colour, modern styling and a buzzy, city-centre atmosphere. In my opinion, it's a great match for golf groups who want to play serious links golf by day, then head out for a proper Sligo evening afterwards without needing taxis.
You're also well placed for a northwest run of golf. Dublin is around two hours away by road and Belfast about three, so it works nicely for longer itineraries where you're mixing courses and bases. The big win, though, is that once you're checked in, you can park up and walk to plenty of pubs, restaurants and live music spots nearby.
If you're after traditional luxury, this might not be your style. If you want modern comfort, strong location and easy access to some of Ireland's best coastal golf, it's a very handy base.

Who is it best for?
Society trips and groups mixing proper golf with a good night out, couples wanting a stylish base with restaurants and music close by and anyone who prefers contemporary design over old-school hotel formality.

The Glasshouse Hotel is an award-recognised 4-star stay and was a finalist for Ireland's City Hotel of the Year in 2018. It has 116 rooms and the design theme carries through upstairs too, with big picture windows that show off either the river or the town.
Rooms are modern, bright and set up well for a golf break. You've got comfortable beds, good bathrooms and enough space to spread out your gear after a wet and windy round. (And yes, in this part of the world, you'll want somewhere you can dry everything properly.) If you're travelling as a group, it's also a straightforward hotel for coming and going, with the reception team used to weekend traffic and early starts.
For golf itineraries, the location is the main selling point. You can build a strong northwest schedule from here and still keep evenings simple, because Sligo's pubs and food spots are on the doorstep. Just make sure you're clear on which links you're prioritising and your transfer times, as coastal runs can take longer than they look on a map.
Food-wise, you've got a few options without leaving the building. The Kitchen Restaurant looks out over the Garavogue and suits a relaxed post-round dinner, with a menu built around local produce including seafood from the Atlantic coast and beef and lamb from the surrounding countryside. The Café Bar is the more casual choice for lighter bites, sandwiches and a decent selection of local craft beers and Irish whiskeys. There's also Afternoon Tea if you fancy something different between rounds or you've non-golfers in the group.
The bar gets busy in the evenings, especially at weekends, with a good mix of locals and guests. If you're here as a society or group, the central location means you can walk to a dozen pubs and restaurants within five minutes, making it easy to explore Sligo's nightlife without needing taxis or designated drivers.

Fantastic hotel in a prime location on the side of the river. Very easy walk to restaurants and local amenities. The hotel has its own underground car park (€4 / day). Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. 2 nice hotel bars and good dining room. Comfortable beds - first night was a bit noisy - second night was quiet.

Spacious room, the atmosphere in restaurant and especially the bar was hospital style. Luckily, the bars in town were right on the doorstep.
