About Greg Norman

Nicknamed The Shark, Greg Norman was born in Australia in 1955 and grew up in Queensland. After enjoying rugby, cricket and surfing in his younger years, Norman eventually took up golf in 1970 at the age of 15 when his mother - a single figure handicapper herself - began to envelop him in the world of the sport. His ability was clear to see early on and in less than 18 months he went from a 27 handicap to a scratch handicap.

After some success as an amateur golfer and having gained experience working as an assistant professional at Beverly Park Golf Club, Norman turned professional in 1976 just 6 years after he first picked up a club. It was later that year at the West Lakes Classic in Adelaide, South Australia where he would claim his first victory - a sign of things to come.

He would go on to become one of the most decorated golfers there is, winning an astonishing 89 tournaments which included 20 PGA Tour wins and The Open Championships in 1986 and 1993.

Other accolades include topping the Official World Golf Rankings on 7 different occasions, winning the PGA Tour of Australia’s Order of Merit 6 times and also the European Tour’s Order of Merit. In 2001, Greg Norman was deservedly inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame to cap what was an extraordinary career.

Norman finished in the top 10 in over 38% of the majors he entered, contributing to him becoming the first person in Tour history to accrue more than $10 million in career earnings. The mark he left on the sport is unquestionable, and it didn’t stop when he retired.

Greg Norman Golf Designs, which was founded back in 1987, has gone on to create more than 100 golf courses in Norman’s homeland and across the world. Among these are New South Wales Golf Club, Sandals Emerald Bay Golf Course and Jumeirah Golf Estates Fire and Earth Courses.

To this day Norman still has a first-hand involvement in golf and currently serves as CEO for Liv Golf Investments, responsible for the highly controversial Liv Golf Invitational Series.
