Located just east of Calais, Golf de Dunkerque is a handy add-on if you're basing yourself in Saint-Omer, Le Touquet or Hardelot and fancy something a bit different from the usual Pas-de-Calais rotation. It's an easy drive from any of the three, typically around an hour depending on where you're staying, so you're not burning half the day in the car.
If you like your golf with a bit of weather involved, you'll enjoy this one. When the wind gets up off the Channel, it quickly becomes a thinking player's round. Expect firm fairways, plenty of interest around the greens and holes that ask you to place the ball rather than simply smash it. The routing makes good use of its coastal setting, offering variety in hole length and direction to keep every round interesting.
The big win is variety. Dunkerque slots nicely into a multi-course break, especially if you're mixing and matching with Hardelot, Wimereux or Belle Dune. It's also a good shout if you want links-style feel without paying top-dollar resort pricing.

Though not long, at 6,579 yards, Dunkerque is one of the most fascinating and unusual courses anywhere. Sculpted imaginatively, Dunkerque is a sea of blue, where water comes into play on no less than 15 holes, and is just 3 miles from the Channel coast.
With the prevalence of the water, accuracy will be your most valuable ally around this Normandy cracker, but there are few more interesting courses anywhere in France to visit on a golfing holiday.
Golf de Dunkerque has recently added a nine hole academy course, which ensures that there is an appropriate challenge for golfers of all abilities.

An excellent course. One hole was either a driver or a wedge due to wind direction. (it was a Driver!)A very nice lady at reception and good service in the bar.

Having played here last years it was clear that the condition of the course had deteriorated. The greens were variable.

A good course to start the trip, the 5 Par 3's are testing especially the 15th.

Played here last September when the course was in great condition. Not so last week, poor maintenance of fairways and tee boxes spoiled the experience.

It was Ryder Cup Sunday and born again golfer Alan turned into MolinHarty with a 58 yard chip into the hole on the 16th. He also won the nearest the pin after 17 years without a game. There were some pretty long walks green to tee, so those of us with buggies made the right choice and the greens had suffered f.It was about 35 minutes from the Eurotunnel, but we stayed and watched the end of the Ryder Cup in the 19th hole, so a very memorable Sunday indeed and a most welcoming clubhouse.
