Built on the site of 15th-century Pitfodels Castle, Norwood Hall is an 1881 Victorian mansion just outside Aberdeen. You get countryside quiet and easy city access, which is exactly what you want on a links trip: calm evenings, quick mornings and no faffing about getting to the first tee.
For most golfers, the headline is Royal Aberdeen. It hosted the Scottish Open in 2014 and sits around 20 minutes away, so early tee times feel realistic rather than heroic. If you're building an Aberdeen golf tour, Norwood Hall also works well for mixing up the style of your rounds. Royal Aberdeen gives you the famous links test, while Cruden Bay (about 40 minutes north) and Murcar Links add a different flavour nearby. If you want to go big for a day, Trump International is also an option within the wider area.
Back at the hotel, the setting is properly peaceful, with its own grounds and open views, so it feels like a country retreat rather than a city stopover. Aberdeen's restaurants and bars are still an easy drive if your group fancies a change of scene after dinner. In short, it's a sensible base for golfers who want serious courses close by and a comfortable, traditional place to switch off afterwards.

Norwood Hall has 73 bedrooms, traditionally furnished and geared towards comfort after a day on the coast. Standard rooms cover the essentials you'll actually use on a golf break: complimentary WiFi, satellite TV, ironing facilities and ensuite bathrooms. Many rooms look out over the surrounding countryside, which is a nice change from the usual car park view you get in city hotels.
If you're staying a few nights, travelling as a couple, or simply want a bit more breathing space for bags and clubs, the Junior Suites are the pick. You'll get a king-size bed, a larger layout and a 40-inch television, which makes it feel more like a proper mini-break rather than a place you're only sleeping in between tee times. It's also a handy upgrade if you've got a non-golfer in the group who'll appreciate a more comfortable base while everyone else is out chasing pars.
The building's Victorian character comes through in the décor and public areas, so it has that classic Scottish country-house feel without being overly formal. After your round, it's the sort of place where you can grab a drink, compare scorecards and plan the next day without needing to head back into town. If you do want nightlife, Aberdeen is close enough to make it easy, but you'll probably be glad to return to the quieter setting afterwards.
The hotel sits in its own grounds with views over rolling countryside, so there's a genuine sense of space and quiet that you don't always get when staying closer to the city. That makes it ideal for golfers who want to properly switch off between rounds, assuming Aberdeen's most famous ghosts don't disrupt your backswing! Renowned as one of the most haunted places in Aberdeen, the hotel offers plenty of character for those needing somewhere memorable to recover after multiple days on the course. The combination of countryside setting, captivating ghost stories, proximity to Aberdeen's courses, and solid, traditional accommodation makes Norwood Hall a practical and comfortable choice for golfers who want a base that works for both early tee times and easy access to the city.

This is a very nice hotel set in some lovely grounds. Parking is good and the room we had was well prepared and spacious. The hotel is not bright and modern it is dark in almost all rooms.
