Moor Allerton Golf Club

8.4
Very Good See all 10 reviews

Moor Allerton Golf Club sits just north of Leeds in seriously good golfing country, with 27 holes of championship parkland designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr laid across classic West Yorkshire terrain. If you like courses that make you think, you'll feel right at home here.

It's also a venue with genuine tour credentials. Moor Allerton has hosted European Tour events and has been played by some of the game's biggest names, with Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman and Tony Jacklin all linked to the club's tournament history. Long-time head professional Peter Alliss once called it "a golfing experience larger than life" and you can see why when you stand on a tee and take in the scale of the place.

What to expect on the course: mature, tree-lined fairways, proper changes in elevation and water hazards that ask for commitment. Trent Jones gives you options from the tee, but the wrong side of the fairway can leave you blocked out by the trees or facing an awkward angle into the green. With 27 holes in play, it's a great option for groups as you can often mix and match nines depending on availability, and the overall feel is "proper golf" without being overly stiff.

Off the course, Leeds is close enough for an easy evening out, which is handy if you're building a weekend around golf and a bit of nightlife. It also pairs nicely with other top tracks nearby, making it a smart addition to a wider Leeds golf tour package.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a well-regarded championship parkland test with European Tour history, close to Leeds and open to visitors.

Who is it best for?
Mid to low handicappers and societies who enjoy strategic golf, like variety across 27 holes and want a strong "headline" course for a Leeds golf tour package.

Another lovely course, but with quite a few hazards you can’t. see. Greens putted well, good speed. Staff not the friendliest though. (Asked to take a demo club which they said they’d sort but it became obvious they weren’t interested). Shame, as it looks a lovely club.

A great experience, scenically beautiful and very challenging. Managed to finish our round in time for the England match and a very enjoyable meal. All three courses were magnificent and I would recommend everybody to give them a go.
