Pannal Golf Club

Excellent See all 4 reviews

Pannal Golf Club opened in 1906 as a nine-hole layout before becoming the full 18 holes in 1908. A pretty decent way to christen the place too, with an early match between James Braid and Harry Vardon attracting around 500 spectators. That sense of heritage still runs through the club today, but it's not stuck in the past either.

You'll find a 6,404-yard parkland test set across mature woodland and gently rolling Yorkshire terrain. There's enough elevation change and well-placed bunkering to keep you honest from the tee, while the better holes reward good positioning rather than simply walloping driver as far as you can. Fairways are generally friendly for mid-handicappers, but miss your spot and the greens are defended well enough to make you think twice. The closing stretch is a strong finish, with tree-lined tee shots and approaches that demand a proper yardage and a committed strike.

Off the course, there's a smart, welcoming clubhouse for post-round food and a relaxed pint, plus an indoor golf studio with a simulator for a bit of practice or a weather-proof session. It's also regularly mentioned as one of the finest golf clubs to play in the Yorkshire area, and it's easy to see why. It's got that traditional members' club feel, but with the sort of facilities that make a golf trip run smoothly.

Who is this for?
Golfers planning a Yorkshire tour who want a classic parkland course with proper history and strong facilities.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who enjoy strategic, tree-lined golf and a traditional members' club feel without the stuffiness.

Pannal Golf Club

Revisions to the original design were made by Alister MacKenzie, and Pannal's parkland course remains largely untouched since. The course hosts Open Championship regional qualifying events, which are a testament to its quality.

The gentle undulations of the North Yorkshire countryside set the scene for the splendid layout, which measures 6,622 yards at its full length. This is not the longest for a modern tournament venue, but the design is subtle and varied, ensuring that every facet of the game is tested thoroughly.

During your golf tour in historic York or even north Yorkshire, be sure you and your guests make a visit to the charming and welcoming Pannal Golf Club as this is one golf course you will want to play.

Great golf course worth every penny. Played on a Sunday so greens hadn’t been cut but still a good pace. We went with a party of 12 from RGC…..all the lads were very complementary about the course. Good test of golf. Club house was great and the bar food was excellent.

Probably the most challenging course we played out of the 3 and very long. We probably should have played this course on the 1st day, the day we arrived so we were fresh and ready for the challenge. However, a very good test and certainly worth the visit!
