Perched above the golden sands of Tres Irmaos Beach, Pestana Blue Alvor Beach Hotel is a smart base if you want sunshine, sea views and proper Algarve golf within easy reach. You've got the coastline on your doorstep, and you're also well placed for some of Portugal's best-known names, including Vila Sol and Vale da Pinta. If you're building a week around a couple of headline rounds, Vila Sol is a popular pick for groups, and Vale da Pinta is a great shout when you want something scenic and scoreable. Include either on your next Algarve golf break.

The all-inclusive set-up keeps spending simple, and the hotel has enough going on that non-golfers are not left staring at your scorecard photos all week. When you're not playing, it's a five-minute walk to the beach, or you can stay put by the pools and make a day of it.

Who is this for?
Golfers seeking an all-inclusive Algarve break with clifftop sea views, easy beach access and a choice of quality courses within a short drive.

Who is it best for?
Societies, groups of 8 to 16 golfers and families who want hassle-free budgeting, multiple dining options and a hotel that caters equally well to golfers and non-playing partners or children.

Accommodation at Pestana Blue Alvor Beach

There are 312 rooms in total, and comfort is the theme. Every room comes with a private balcony, plus satellite TV, a safe deposit box, air-conditioning and a well-finished bathroom. Many rooms face towards the sea, which is worth requesting if you like a balcony beer with a view after 18 holes. The rooms are modern and spacious, with enough storage for a week's worth of kit, and the balconies are properly sized, not token ledges.

On-site facilities suit mixed groups. You've got an outdoor pool that works well for families, an indoor pool if the evenings cool off and an adults-only Relax pool for guests aged 16 and over, which is ideal when you want a quieter spot to recharge. The beach is close enough to feel effortless, and it's a popular stretch for water sports if someone in your group fancies swapping a wedge for a wetsuit. Right, the walk down takes about five minutes, and there are steps rather than a steep path, so it's manageable even after a long round.

Families are well catered for too, with a kids' club running a proper programme of activities, so golfers can head off for a tee time without feeling like they're negotiating childcare on holiday. The all-inclusive format does what it says on the tin, covering food and drinks through the day, which is especially handy if your group likes to keep things simple and social. You're not worrying about who owes what at the bar, and you can grab snacks and soft drinks between rounds without thinking twice.

The restaurants and bars offer a varied gastronomic experience on an all-inclusive basis. The Acqua Buffet Restaurant serves meals throughout the day, including brunch for those who prefer to wake up later, which is a nice touch if you've had a late finish the night before. For an à la carte experience, the Luigi Italian Restaurant offers the best of Italian cuisine, and it's worth booking a table if you fancy something a bit more focused. Fuego Restaurant, Surf & Turf, offers a solid combination of meat and seafood, and the quality is good for an all-inclusive set-up. In summer, the McBlue Food Truck pops up by the pool for quick, no-fuss snacks and drinks between dips. The bar stays open throughout the day for cocktails and refreshments, and the terrace is a popular spot for a sundowner before dinner.

Overall hotel fine. The rooms allocated however were far too small. By the time we took our golf clubs to the rooms it was dreadful. We have stayed they many times and never had a room this small or uncomfortable. Very disappointing

Great location. Rooms good enough for the time you spend in them. Food ok, shame surf & turf restaurant not open until 13th May. Drinks ok but reusable plastic cups at pool bar not ideal as not washed properly. Other than couldn’t fault the hotel.

Location, room and facilities excellent but food is poor definitely not 5* standard. (cooked breakfast is ok but bacon and sausages not like uk at all, hash browns and egg aren’t too bad. cereal is rubbish, fruit selection is good and plenty of bread selection for toasting. Wasn’t at the hotel much for lunch but they provided cling film to make sandwiches for the course which is excellent!! Evening meal was ok, plenty of fish options but meat was poor overall. Snack bar was okay with burgers or hot dogs each day)

7 of us went for a Golfing Break. Staff were pleasant from day 1, always on hand and happy to help. My room was lovely with a nice double bed overlooking a great Sea view. Food was average, fairly basic range but I guess we were out of Season perhaps? Entertainment in the Bar was a bit Cringey... but then again perhaps the time of year?

Big problem was being dropped off at wrong hotel also golf transfers were not arranged and I had to organise them daily myself. Also return airport transfers hadn’t been arranged from correct hotel. I will be in touch separately about golf transfers.
