0800 043 6644The winding fairways and elevated greens are typical of Cotton's architectural philosophy, and ensure that there is a stern challenge for the low handicap players, whilst remaining fair for the average golfer. Set across two rolling hills, visitors will enjoy beautiful views of the Lagos Bay.
The course is just shy of 7,000 yards, but that is mostly thanks to the monstrous 16th, which measures 661 yards and has appropriately been dubbed, ‘Gigante'.
Set amongst the pine, fig, almond and carob trees, and flanked by beautiful villas, Alto is a delightful place for a round of golf during your golf holiday in the Western Algarve.

Best condition I have seen it in in the past 9 trips
Excellent experience on a proper and challenging course. Some real tough and well shaped holes with small firm and fast greens.
Great experience for straight shots
Use to be a member. Know it well. Narrow fairways, lots of raised greens
back 9 has been shortened which helps ..
Too many trees. Always beats me up, but fun had by all.
Lovely tight golf course. Fairways very green but a little overwatered. Green excellent. Ate after round and was good value in nice setting
Nobody on this course so obviously no slow play However the grass just off the fairway was so long difficult to find your ball also every green was above you and distances were difficult to work out
We didn’t like Alto so much. It was nice to play another course. It was too narrow, more than half the holes were a severe dog leg, and many greens were on a raised plateau that were very hard to hit.
Much easier course especially for us ladies who are longer hitters!! As the tees are ‘much’ further ahead in front of the men’s tees. Much flatter course compared to the other Pestana courses and less scenic but still pretty with lovely pine trees. Very enjoyable and pretty course.
Not a long course but very tight.Tree lined .The back nine has changed and the long par 5 16th has been shortened
The course was interesting in layout but the fairways were inconsistent and different grasses from hole to hole. The greens were a little sandy and I’m not sure the quality was as good as the other Pestana courses we played ( VilaSol and Vale de Pinta)
Good course for right-handed faders. A nightmare for left-handed faders, as one of our group found out! Friendly, efficient - and relatively cheap. Recommended.
One of the trickier pestana courses due to it being more established and having more trees meaning it's not as open as some of the others. Course was in good condition with greens well maintained. Need to keep it straight to get the best out of your round
Nice course, the only complaint if any was that the first nine holes are pretty much the same, not as challenging as we hoped
Was a good course to start the week as got you thinking and wasn't to difficult front 9 was wet but playble and back nine was really good
Much better than alamos. Weird how they said no rain to us at alamos was cuase for bad condition yet alto was as green as anything and greens 10x better? Alto was good and would ply3 again.
this course was very wet over watered
Tight course very Portuguese with overhanging trees but loved it
Again course very quiet which was very good.
Having been here a few times over the last 5 years it has definitely deteriorated. Greens are in poor condition and very patchy. The saving grace is the lovely club house.
Again buggies an issue but finally came good
This course favours the straight hitter with narrow fairways lined on both sides with tall trees all too keen to block your next shot to the green if you go off the fairway.
This is the most difficult of the Pestana courses and I have played all of them over the past couple of years. It's sometimes viewed as the poor relation compared to Pinta, Gramacho and Silves, but it's a lovely parkland course with some very challenging holes. Try playing double dog leg par 4's. This is a course for accuracy, rather than distance. We played 3 stableford over 3 course and this was the lowest scoring course for our group by some distance. If you fancy yourself as a golfer, you must play here. Sorts the men out from the boys!
Again a lovely course in great condition. Massively favoured the straight hitters in our group which was only fair I suppose as Gramacho v.good for long hook/draw. We were off directly after the members roll-up so were able to play at good pace which was nice.
Excellent all the buggies were over priced
Course was very wet but there was no slow play bar food and drinks over priced
Lovely course but buggy's expensive.
We did not enjoy this course Too many holes are up hill with upturned saucer greens Too many holes feel similar We will not play it again All other Pestana courses are more enjoyable to play
