Alto Golf & Country Club

The winding fairways and elevated greens are typical of Cotton's architectural philosophy, and ensure that there is a stern challenge for the low handicap players, whilst remaining fair for the average golfer. Set across two rolling hills, visitors will enjoy beautiful views of the Lagos Bay.

The course is just shy of 7,000 yards, but that is mostly thanks to the monstrous 16th, which measures 661 yards and has appropriately been dubbed, ‘Gigante'.

Set amongst the pine, fig, almond and carob trees, and flanked by beautiful villas, Alto is a delightful place for a round of golf during your golf holiday in the Western Algarve.

Enjoyable round on the course beside our hotel. Very convenient. Quite narrow but not a long course. Some very picturesque holes on the back nine. Well worth playing.

The course at the hotel was closed for maintenance for our first two booked rounds and we were moved to La Reserva (which was a top notch, but very difficult course). As such we played the Alto only once (thankfully), as the course especially the front nine was in poor condition and whilst most of the greens were OK (there were some showing poor signs of wear and tear), the fairways were not great and not as expected. The back nine was better… Not an easy course…..must say that the buggy paths need some serious attention as they are so poor in parts, it will cause an accident
