The Dom Joao II has a fine selection of guest rooms which are spacious and bright, and are complete with all the amenities required for complete comfort. Many rooms offer sea views, while all are equipped with air-conditioning, satellite television, radio and direct dial telephone.
High levels of service are assured by the well regarded Pestana group, while the local golfing delights that include Silves, Pinta, Gramacho and Alto make the Dom Joao II a fantastic option for a golf escape to the Algarve.
Guests can take advantage of the hotel's indoor and outdoor pools and gym, while there is also mini-golf, tennis courts and water sports in the local area.
Never stayed there this year but good last year
The room was fairly standard but nice and clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. The outside areas were clean and well maintained with plenty of loungers around the pool and gardens, the spa us tired and not very welcoming and the steam room didn't work while we were there. The breakfast were usual buffet type breakfast but the standard of cereal and jam and those kind of things did seem poor. The town of Alvor is a 10 minute walk away and has a fantastic choice of restaurants and bars with great service and great atmosphere. The boardwalk and the beach are superb so the town and beach area more than made up for the little let down of the food and spa.
We actually got upgraded to the Pestana Blue hotel and resort complex in Alvor a new 5 star hotel all inclusive. The facilities and rooms were fantastic Food and drink also brilliant and plenty to do around the hotel when waiting to play or not playing golf Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone Staff friendly and helpful also
I was bitterly disappointed about our room (N0 207). We had paid extra for a Sea View, however when looking from our balcony the view was blocked by some concrete construction, which I am still not what it was and large trees. We could just about see the Sea but I would say it was less 10% of the overall scene (picture available if you want it). I did complain and was willing to pay extra for a room on a higher floor but was told the Hotel was full. Over the week I asked a few guests who were on the 3rd and 4th floors when they booked there holiday and about 50% of them had made reservations in the past 3 months, which seems to me there is no advantage in booking early as you will only be allocated a poor room. As to the room, it was kept spotless by the cleaning staff and they are to be congratulated. The bars and restaurants were Ok but nothing special. The hotel want 25 euros for an evening meal (20 euros) if you book the day before for a buffet type service. As you can get a very decent meal with a drink for two in Alvor (15 mins away) for less 40 euros, I would avoid the hotel. If you are having breakfast, get there before 0800 as after then it is a bit of a "Bun Fight". Next to the hotel is the Pestana golf shop and the staff in there were excellent. We needed to change some dates and times for our vouchers and nothing was too much trouble for them, once again the staff should be congratulated, as with all the general staff of the hotel.
Great location, clean and good breakfasts. Rooms are comfortable with plenty of room. Easy walk along the lovely boardwalk to the town, where there are plenty of lovely restaurants and bars. Great beach just outside hotel or plenty of free sun beds by the pool.
Great location for the golf and eating out
Very good and roomy. Didn’t like the blind that when opened displaying someone in the shower!!
staff at reception very friendly & helpful, breakfast i didn't like having to queue for coffee, toast, eggs & omelettes. rooms very good, cleaned to a good standard daily
Great place for us to stay. Great facilities and only a shortish walk into Alvor.
Hotel ok as usual, car park rammed full every night which can be a pain. Breakfasts good enough, snacks and beer expensive other than happy hours. Rooms good enough, cleaned well each day. Staff chatty and smiley .
It was adequate for us and very comfortable
Basic hotel, not four star, but clean and tidy.
Comfortable clean friendly
Hotel is getting tired wants update to rooms
Room was light and nicely laid out...wish I'd asked for a sea view though! Breakfasts were amazing...so much choice. Bar area was nice and enjoyed the entertainment on several nights we were there. Also uses the pool and sauna in the Wellness centre. Pool was too cold first few days then it heated up and was much more pleasant. Would certainly stay here again.
This is our second times stay.. excellent service as well excellent locate where the great beach are in front of the hotel also lovely old town in Alvor which is about 15 minutes walk. Good locate for golfing holiday.
This is the second time I have stayed at this Hotel, situated in a great location and good facilities, but the qualiy of the food for the evening meal was not as good and varied as two years ago.
