If you like knowing who's behind the design, Gramacho has a cracking backstory. After the success of the Vale de Pinta course, American architect Ronald Fream joined forces with former world No. 1 Nick Price from Zimbabwe to shape the distinctive layout. Expect a genuine Algarve test that mixes scenic holes with a few decisions off the tee. There's enough shaping and movement in the routing to keep things interesting, and it rewards players who position the ball well rather than simply swinging as hard as they can. It's the sort of course where you can enjoy a relaxed holiday round and still feel you've earned your score.
Location adds to the appeal. Gramacho lies next to the lively town of Portimao, so if you're staying nearby the beach is right on your doorstep, with plenty of restaurants and bars for the post-round debrief. It is one of only a few courses in the world with 18 sets of tees and fairways, but with 27 greens. This means players are able to enjoy the same course time and time again with slightly different challenges. Holes 1 through 4 and 14 through 18 have two greens each, and your approach to each hole will vary depending on which greens are in play.
Even though this course has hosted the Portuguese Ladies Open on a number of occasions, Pestana Gramacho is well-known as a championship course that is playable for all abilities, even those with a very high handicap.
Apart from the fantastic design, Fream and Price managed to incorporate the traditional landscape into the layout by using the natural stone outcrops, historical dry stone walling and existing ancient trees, along with some artfully sculpted lakes and bunkers.
Experienced golfers will certainly know that they have played a superb golf course with its testing par of 71 and a tiger tee length of nearly 6,700 yards.

Course very nice, couple of holes you would need to play a couple of times as blind drives &/or second shots. Felt hit decent shot thought on right edge of fairway, but could not locate ball. Playing partners had same issue on other holes.
