- 1 Round at Woodenbridge Golf Club
- 1 Round at Powerscourt West
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Half an hour south of Dublin, Powerscourt Golf Club sits in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains and offers two championship layouts that make the most of 1,000 acres of rolling estate land. The East Course has hosted both the Irish PGA Championship and the European Tour Irish Senior Open, while the West Course stretches across open parkland with views that take in the surrounding peaks and valleys.
Both tracks strike a good balance, better players will need to shape it and think their way round, but if you're off a higher handicap you're not going to spend the day chopping out of trouble either. The setting is one of the main draws. You're playing golf on land that was once part of the historic Powerscourt Estate, so the backdrop is a mix of mature woodland, open fairways and distant mountain ridges. Conditioning is typically strong for an Irish parkland venue, with smooth greens and tidy presentation when we've seen it.
Powerscourt is close enough to Dublin to work as a day trip, but it's also a strong base for a longer golf break in Wicklow. The area is home to several other quality courses and the town of Enniskerry is only a short walk away if you want a post-round pint or a decent meal.
Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a quality parkland experience within easy reach of Dublin, with two championship courses that offer variety, challenge and scenery in equal measure.
Who is it best for?
Groups and societies wanting a solid two-course base in Wicklow, couples combining golf with countryside walks and heritage sites plus anyone who wants to play tournament-standard golf without the formality or price tag of some of Ireland's more exclusive clubs.

Powerscourt Golf Club is situated in a very picturesque part of Wicklow, only 30 minutes from Dublin city centre. Opening in 1996 it has risen through the ranks to now be voted the Best Parkland Venue in Ireland 2014 with two fantastic championship courses.
East Course
Boasting the Irish PGA Championship and the European Tour Irish Senior Open, this is a testing course for all. It was designed by former Walker Cup Captain Peter Mc Evoy, stretches 6441 yards and is a par 72.
West Course
These 18 holes allow you to experience the beautiful, natural surroundings and although slightly shorter than the East Course, it also presents a par 72. David McLay-Kidd has created a course that entwines around the 1000 acre estate with wonderful views of both the hills and the sea.
Located at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains and only a few minutes from Powerscourt Golf Club, Summerhill House Hotel is a traditional country house that works well as a base for a golf break in the area. The hotel sits in its own grounds with views across the surrounding countryside, and the town of Enniskerry is close enough to walk to if you want to explore the local pubs and restaurants after your round.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with classic décor that leans towards country-house style rather than modern minimalism. You'll find everything you need for a straightforward stay, including en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee facilities and enough space to store your clubs and kit without tripping over them. The hotel has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff are generally accommodating. If you've got an early tee time, it's worth flagging it at booking, as they can often sort breakfast around golfers' schedules.
Facilities include a restaurant serving breakfast and evening meals, a bar with a decent selection of local beers and whiskeys, and gardens that are worth a wander if you've got time before or after your round. The food is hearty and well-prepared, with a focus on Irish ingredients and traditional dishes done properly. Breakfast is a full Irish affair, which is exactly what you want before heading out for 36 holes, and the evening menu offers enough variety to keep you interested over a few nights. The bar is a good spot to settle in after golf, with a proper pub feel and enough local character to make it more than just a hotel lounge.
The location is ideal if you're planning to play multiple courses in the region. Powerscourt is on the doorstep, and you're within easy reach of other Wicklow venues if you want to mix things up. The proximity to Enniskerry means you've got options for dining and socialising beyond the hotel itself, and the village has a few decent spots for a post-round pint and a proper feed.
Summerhill House Hotel is well suited to golfers who want a comfortable, no-nonsense base within easy reach of Powerscourt and the wider Wicklow area. It's a solid, reliable option that does the job well and gives you a proper sense of place without any unnecessary fuss. The hotel isn't a luxury resort, but it's exactly what you need for a golf-focused break, good rooms, decent food, a welcoming bar and staff who understand what golfers are after.

Wonderful course surrounded by the Wicklow mountains, some memorable holes. Right up there with the best parkland courses in Ireland but because of it's location near Dublin it is expensive. One for the bucket list.
