- 1 Round at Hillside Golf Club
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Southport's a cracking base for a North West links binge and The Vincent puts you right in the middle of it, about 100 yards from Southport rail station and an easy stroll from the town's shops, bars and restaurants. If you like your golf proper and wind-assisted, you're in the right place. Royal Birkdale, Hillside and Formby are all close enough for painless morning transfers, with Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham also very doable as part of a multi-course tour.
What I like about staying in town, rather than out on a resort, is you can actually make the evenings count. You've got plenty going on after golf, but you're still well placed for early tee times the next day. The Vincent is a 4-star boutique hotel, so you get more style and personality than a standard chain, while keeping the practical bits nailed: central location, comfortable rooms and good food and drink on hand.
If you're building a Southport and Formby-based itinerary and want a smart hotel with a bit of buzz, it's a strong shout.
Who is this for?
Golf groups and couples who want a central Southport hotel for a links tour, with good food and a proper bar for post-round debriefs.
Who is it best for?
Multi-course itineraries based around Birkdale, Hillside and Formby, societies who want nightlife within walking distance, and couples mixing golf with a weekend by the coast.

The Vincent has 59 boutique-style bedrooms across six floors, each individually styled with the modern essentials you'd expect from a 4-star stay. If you're travelling as a group, the big win is how easy it is to get everyone checked in and then straight out into Southport on foot. No taxis, no faff.
Room categories run from smart, well-finished standard options through to the Penthouse Suite, which is the full treat-yourself number. You've got a rooftop hot tub, a rainforest shower and a private steam room, which is exactly what you want after a blustery day on the links (and an "I'll just hit a little bunt" shot that somehow still ballooned into the wind).
Food and drink is a major part of the appeal here. The Vincent Café & Restaurant has picked up AA Rosettes and landed a spot in The Times "Top 10 Coolest Restaurants", so you're not relying on hotel food as a last resort. The menu covers British classics alongside European and international dishes, with handmade sushi also on the card, handy when you've got a group with mixed tastes over a few nights.
Then there's The Vincent Bar, a relaxed space with a strong cocktail and wine list. It's a good setting for a post-round recap, scorecard disputes and planning tomorrow's tee times. If you fancy a change of scene, you're already in the centre, so Southport's other spots are right there.

Very friendly staff, good service in terms of parking albeit at an extra cost. Room was comfortable enough but the only complaint being the super high dangerous step to get into the shower which was situated in a very deep bath.
