The links turf overlooking Cardigan Bay forms the basis of the traditional coastal golf course at Aberdovey Golf Club. This is the true essence of Aberdovey, in that the course is merely a reflection of the remarkable terrain. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Welsh coastline, the layout weaves through classic linksland where the natural contours dictate play and the wind off Cardigan Bay adds a strategic dimension to every round.

The course demands thoughtful club selection and course management rather than brute force, rewarding golfers who can shape the ball and use the firm, fast-running fairways to their advantage. Elevated tees offer sweeping views across the estuary, while the routing takes full advantage of the undulating dunes and natural hazards that define traditional links golf. It's a layout that feels untouched by modern intervention, where the golf sits naturally within the landscape rather than being imposed upon it.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a genuine links test in Wales, with sea views, fast turf and a friendly clubhouse. Spot on for couples, small groups and societies looking for golf that feels traditional rather than manicured.

Who is it best for?
Players who enjoy thinking their way round, especially if you're happy to flight the ball down and use the ground game. Higher handicappers will still have fun here, but you'll enjoy it most if you're comfortable playing in the wind.

Aberdovey Golf Club

Like many links courses created around the turn of the twentieth century, Aberdovey is very much an out and back loop, and is affected distinctly by the elements. The wind coming off the bay can range from a gentle breeze to a howling gale, transforming the character of the course in turn.

New tees for 2007 have lengthened the existing James Braid layout in the hope of attracting more tournament golf to the links; having previously hosted a number of national amateur events, Aberdovey is a well established championship venue.

Visitors to Aberdovey are often enchanted by the atmosphere and setting of the club, which is unfussy and unpretentious. Add to this the superb course, and it is clear why so many choose Aberdovey as part of a fantastic golf tour on the Welsh coast.

Aberdovey is ranked as one of the best courses in Wales

Accommodation at Aberdovey Golf Club

Aberdovey's Dormy Bungalow works brilliantly for golf groups because it keeps everything simple. You're right by the 18th green, so once you've finished your round it's a short stroll back to drop your clubs, get changed and head to the clubhouse. With six en-suite twin rooms, it suits mates' trips and societies where everyone wants comfort and privacy without the price tag of multiple hotel rooms. Recently awarded a four-star rating by Visit Wales, the bungalow sleeps up to 12 people comfortably.

The accommodation combines traditional charm with modern convenience, making it ideal for golf groups who want to stay on-site and maximise their time on the course. Each room is comfortably furnished with twin beds and private facilities, ensuring everyone in the group has their own space after a day on the links. The layout works particularly well for larger parties, with communal areas that encourage post-round discussion and relaxation.

Storage is generous throughout, with dedicated space for golf clubs, wet-weather gear and luggage, so the bungalow never feels cluttered even when fully occupied. Modern amenities include Wi-Fi, heating and well-equipped communal spaces, while the proximity to the clubhouse means you're close enough to sort meals without needing to drive anywhere. Being on-site means no faffing with taxis or early-morning drives to make a tee time. It's a practical, no-fuss base that keeps the focus firmly on the golf, with everything you need within a few paces of the final green.

The bungalow suits groups who want a self-contained retreat with easy access to the course and clubhouse facilities, offering the convenience of on-site accommodation without sacrificing comfort or quality. Twin rooms work well for society trips and buddy breaks where everyone wants their own bed, and the communal setup means you can gather for a drink and a debrief without leaving the building.

Course was in wonderful condition. A real challenge from the tee on the first 9 given the narrow fairways and strong headwind. Greens a joy to putt on. Great experience !!
