Sandy Lane, Barbados

Golf in Barbados

Within the crystal blue waters and white sand beaches that surround Barbados lies some truly spectacular golf courses that are an incredible blend of masterful course design with the dramatic natural landscape. The pinnacle of golf on the island is the world famous ‘Green Monkey’ at Sandy Lane which is one of the most exclusive places to play and a definite feature on any golf fanatics bucket list.

The west coast of the Island is the tourist hotspot and is home to a number of luxury hotels, fantastic restaurants and in places a vibrant nightlife that make for the perfect accompaniment to the days golf.

The tropical climate means that the weather is very warm all year round and whilst you can encounter heavy showers in June through till October they very rarely last long enough to put an end to a days golf.

Sandy Lane, Green Monkey Course

At the forefront of golf in Barbados and arguably the Caribbean is the exclusive Green Monkey course at Sandy Lane Resort. Carved out of an old quarry, the fairways and greens are often lined by sheer cliff faces which helps create a sense of drama throughout your round.

The signature hole on the course features an area of grass surrounded by sand that has been sculpted into the shape of the Bajan Green Monkey that the course takes it name from. Any golfing fanatic is sure to have this place on their bucket list and is a must play for anyone who ever has the chance.

Royal Westmoreland

Ranked firmly inside the world’s top 100 golf courses, Royal Westmoreland is home to some of the best golf holes on the island. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr. the course boasts arguably the best set of par 3s in the Caribbean with players having to play over deep ravines and onto greens with testing drop offs.

The course provides players with stunning views out towards the Sea and when you combine this with the immaculate condition of the place it is impossible to have a bad round here (regardless of score). The old colonial style clubhouse is the perfect setting for a 19th hole and with a terrace that overlooks the course, there aren’t many better places to enjoy a cold beer.

Barbados Golf Club

Located in the South of the Island, Barbados Golf Club is one the island’s most established golfing venues and is a customer favourite in terms of golfing satisfaction. Renowned for being easier than some of the other courses, players of all abilities are able to enjoy a fair challenge throughout a round here.

The highlight of the course is the when the two nines return to the front of the clubhouse and culminate in a stunning triple green which skirts a lake that is as dangerous as it is beautiful.
