Powerscourt Hotel

Powerscourt Hotel is a proper treat-yourself Irish base, just 30 minutes south of Dublin with the Wicklow Mountains as your backdrop. You've got the grand old Palladian-style house vibes on the outside, then all the five-star comfort you want on the inside. If you like a hotel where the non-golf bits are genuinely worth the trip too, this one ticks a lot of boxes.

Golf-wise, you're in a handy pocket. Powerscourt Golf Club is right on the estate, then you're within easy reach of Druids Glen and The K Club for a couple of big-name rounds. And when the weather does its usual Irish thing, the grounds give you something to do that isn't just hiding in the bar.

The gardens are a standout and they're ideal for a gentle wander on arrival day or when someone in the group fancies a break from 18 holes. They stretch across multiple terraces with Italian and Japanese influences, ornamental lakes and over 200 varieties of trees and shrubs. It's the kind of place where you can lose an afternoon wandering the grounds, particularly if the weather turns and you need a break from the course.

The ESPA spa is another major draw, one of the larger hotel spas in Ireland, with a thermal suite, hydrotherapy pool and a full menu of treatments. If you've been walking 36 holes or tackling the hills at Powerscourt Golf Club, a session in the thermal suite or a sports massage focused on post-round recovery can make a real difference.

Who is this for?
Golfers and groups seeking a luxury Irish break that combines quality parkland golf with heritage, spa facilities and fine dining, all within striking distance of Dublin.

Who is it best for?
Couples and small groups who want a five-star, resort-style experience with access to multiple championship courses, plus non-golfing partners who'll appreciate the spa, gardens and proximity to Wicklow's scenery and walking trails.

Powerscourt Golf Club

Powerscourt Golf Club is situated in an very picturesque part of Wicklow, only 30 minutes from Dublin city centre. Opening in 1996 it has risen through the ranks to now be voted the Best Parkland Venue in Ireland 2014 with two fantastic championship courses.

East Course

Boasting the Irish PGA Championship and the European Tour Irish Senior Open, this is a testing course for all. It was designed by former Walker Cup Captain Peter Mc Evoy, stretches 6441 yards and is a par 72.

West Course

These 18 holes allow you to experience the beautiful, natural surroundings and although slightly shorter than the East Course, it also presents a par 72. David McLay Kidd has created a course that entwines around the 1000 acre estate with wonderful views of both the hills and the sea.

Accommodation at Powerscourt Hotel

The Powerscourt Hotel offers 200 rooms and suites, all designed with a blend of classic elegance and contemporary comfort. You'll find 93 suites among the mix, many with views across the estate towards the Wicklow Mountains or the formal gardens below. Rooms are big enough for a golf bag and a suitcase without feeling like you're playing Tetris, and the suites are a smart shout if you're travelling as a couple or you want extra space for kit. You've got signature linens, featherbeds, interactive TVs, air conditioning and complimentary WiFi, alongside tea and coffee facilities. The suites are particularly spacious, ideal if you're travelling with golf clubs and want room to spread out after a round.

The hotel's scale and layout make it well suited to golf groups and societies. There's plenty of space in the public areas, the rooms are generous and the on-site facilities mean you're not reliant on heading into town for dinner or drinks. If you've got an early tee time, it's worth asking about breakfast timings and grab-and-go options. For groups, the public areas work well for meeting up without feeling cramped, and you can keep everything on site for the evening which is ideal if nobody wants to draw the short straw and drive.

Dining is centred around Sika Restaurant, which seats up to 89 and focuses on contemporary Irish cooking with an emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients. The setting is spectacular, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the Wicklow hills. The menu changes regularly to reflect what's available locally and the wine list is extensive. For something more relaxed, the Sugar Loaf Lounge offers all-day dining and a comfortable spot for a post-round pint, while McGills Pub has a more traditional feel with a solid selection of Irish whiskeys and craft beers. The ESPA Café is another option, lighter fare and healthier choices if you're keeping an eye on what you're eating during a golf trip.

The hotel also caters well to groups, with private dining options available in Sika and flexible arrangements for breakfast times, particularly useful if you've got an early tee time at one of the nearby courses. The combination of quality accommodation, strong dining options and the spa facilities makes Powerscourt a step above the standard golf hotel, particularly if you're looking to impress clients or celebrate a special occasion on the course. Include Powerscourt on your next Ireland Golf Break if you want Dublin access with a proper resort feel.
