This phenomenal club can trace its roots back to 1891 when it opened as a nine-holer. It was soon extended to 18 holes and over the next couple of decades was honed and improved by a succession of great architects of the day, including Herbert Fowler, Harry Colt, Harold Hilton and Dr Alister Mackenzie, designer of Augusta National.

Golf Courses at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club

Championship Course

This stunning seaside links course is laid out in the traditional manner - nine holes out and nine back. Excellent drainage due to the sandy subsoil ensures that the course is rarely if ever closed and the greens are renowned as true and quick. The first nine skirt the sand dunes and coastline northwards, turning inland and southwards and then following the coast road through Berrow, past the famous Church and back into Burnham.

As with all links golf the challenging factor is the wind and its unpredictability, which means that the course can play differently almost every day. The course demands that you use almost every club in the bag and the experience is memorable and always a challenge. This is why Burnham and Berrow is chosen so frequently as hosts for many championship tournaments.

Channel Course

The Channel Course at Burnham and Berrow was established in 1977 and designed by the renowned Fred Hawtree. It is an 18 tee, 9-hole course, providing a nice add-on for those wanting to play a full day here. It is located on the coastal side of the main links, and is blessed with several extremely good holes which vie with some on the Championship Course. The course is approximately 3,000 yards long and is a real test of ability and a joy to play.

Facilities

After a challenging day on the links, you can relax in the clubhouse, built in 1910, which offers full bar and catering facilities throughout the day. Enjoy a full English breakfast through to lunch and evening meals, as well as a comprehensive bar menu for snacks through the day. The focal part of the clubhouse is the spacious and comfortably furnished lounge and bar area which overlooks the course, with doors opening onto a covered terrace, from where you can watch the sun set behind the dunes and the last golfers completing the 18th hole. You can also peruse the club's extensive collections of golfing memorabilia. There's also a well managed driving range, practice chipping area and well-stocked pro shop, making Burnham and Berrow a great addition to a golf tour of South West England.

Front nine is a lot easier than the back nine into the wind. More blind holes on the back nine so knowing the course is key here. We lost a few balls to good shots simply because we needed to actually hit the ball in a different position. The marker posts weren't tremendously helpful. Greens were superb and the course was in good condition generally. We were stuck behind a club 4 Ball Texas Scramble so as a two ball it was excruciatingly slow, however there were benches or seats to sit on which helped. I personally wouldn't pay the money they are asking to play again. Its not worth what they think it is.

Enjoyed the course, a very relaxed and friendly club. The starter in particular was very welcoming. There were no truly memorable 'signature' holes, and quite a few blind tee shots which are always tricky the first time you play the course! An enjoyable round and well worth playing the course.

Very good links golf test with some terrific holes, only spoilt by the weather on the day but would like to play it in calm and dry conditions in the future.
