Elea Golf Club near Paphos is one of Cyprus' standout modern courses and, alongside Aphrodite Hills, it's helped put the island on the radar for golfers chasing something different from the usual Spain and Portugal rotation. Designed by six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo, it's a proper thinking-player's layout that makes you earn your score.
The routing follows the natural contours of the site, so you get plenty of variety in elevation and angles into the greens. Off the tee, there's rarely a free swing. Strategic bunkers shape the better line and a handful of water hazards add a bit of spice when the wind gets up. The real defence, though, is on and around the greens, which are cleverly contoured and will quickly punish a lazy approach.
If you're playing in the afternoon, don't be surprised if it feels a club longer once the breeze arrives, especially on the par 3s where carries and deep greenside bunkers can turn a par chance into damage limitation. There are risk-reward moments too, but it's usually the sensible play that pays off here, not the heroic one.

The magnificent par-71 golf course at Elea Golf Club commands a striking location above the shimmering Mediterranean Sea and has been meticulously crafted through dramatic landscape, featuring imposing weathered outcrops of limestone that offer a unique character across the course. Commenting on his vision for Elea Golf Club, the designer, Sir Nick Faldo, said: "This golf course certainly has the potential to play a pivotal role in establishing this part of the world as a leading European golf destination.
"When we designed the golf course at Elea Golf Club we decided to put the emphasis on thoughtful, rather than big-hitting, golf and there are plenty of strategic riddles for the golfer to explore and unravel over all 18 holes."
The fascinating layout circulates through stands of mature carob and olive trees, while the dramatic outcrops of weathered limestone strike a contrast with the deep green of the seaside paspalum grass fairways and semi-roughs. In a carefully planned ecological design, individual holes are fringed by undisturbed and un-irrigated swathes of colourful native ‘garrigue' flora. This stunning visual effect invokes a truly Mediterranean feel, while retaining the ethos of a traditional and dramatic experience for the golfer. In addition, the wildlife of partridges, birds of prey, butterflies and lizards thrive on the benefits of this carefully protected environment.
One other significant feature of Elea Golf Club is the large and sumptuous clubhouse that also boasts underground parking facilities.

A nice course. Probably unfair as we played it the day after Aphrodite. Very playable and in good condition. Stunning views.

Elea is a fine golf course but a difficult test for the first time player as my wife and I were given that there are a number of holes where shots are being taken 'blind'. Overall conditions on the course were good and the pace of play was OK. We enjoyed our round.

Very nice course. Great greens. Some absolute idiot has the 17th hole as a si5 when it was clearly the most difficult hole on the whole layout. Good clubhouse with a great breakfast and very nice staff. Limited buggies and when we turned up they said they had not got our YGT reservation. In the end they managed to magic one up but it took ages to sort it out.

Not in the best condition but apparently they’ve had thunderstorms and heavy rain prior to our visit, so understandable. Lots of bunkers but still enjoyable.
