Situated less than 20 minutes north of central Marrakech, Pickalbatros Golf Club is a championship venue designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. If you're a bit of a course-design geek, the name will jump out straight away. He's worked on many tournament standard courses and you'll see that same 'think your way round' feel here, big palm-lined sightlines, water on a handful of key holes and green sites that reward the right angle in.
Pickalbatros has welcomed golfers since 1992, making it Marrakech's second-oldest course and a popular pick for a Morocco golf holiday. The big plus for travelling groups and couples is convenience. You've got on-site accommodation and a well-established resort set-up, so sorting tee times and post-round relaxation is pretty painless.
One of the standout features is the palm grove that frames the holes. It dates back to the 11th century and, according to local history, began when soldiers of Almoravid Sultan Youssef ben Tachfine returned from the Sahara with dates. Those plantings eventually became a vast palm area that still gives the course its shade, shape and unmistakable Marrakech feel.
Expect mature palms throughout with water coming into play on a few holes, so keep an eye on your lines into the greens. The course suits mid-to-low handicappers who enjoy strategic golf in a resort setting, though higher handicappers will find it playable if they manage their game sensibly.
Please note: a golf buggy or caddy is compulsory when playing the course.
Who is this for?
Marrakech-based golf breaks, quick winter-sun getaways, groups who want on-site golf and accommodation in one place.
Who is it best for?
Golfers who enjoy tree-lined strategy, players happy to shape shots and plot their way round, mid-handicappers looking for a fair but testing resort round.

Measuring 6,835 yards against it’s par of 72, Pickalbatros Golf Club is a course that requires guile rather than distance that is the key to playing to your handicap here. It is popular with a range of players with many couples enjoying rounds here courtesy of it’s design.
Those who are playing Golfers can expect all of the hallmarks of Morocco golf course design with lush fairways framed by the Atlas Mountains as well as mature trees that provide a unique golfing experience.
With almost year round sunshine it is easy to see why so many head here for a winter golfing getaway. With access to a host of fantastic golf courses in the local area a round of golf at Golf Club Rotana Palmeraie is sure to be a popular choice.

The course itself was excellent. Lots of groundsmen around the course. The surrounding area and buildings were abit tired and lots of building work going on the large complex. The whole site needs a freshen up. Buggy Boss was efficient and large practice areas all around. Pro shop a bit disappointing and the bar area lacked atmosphere. Beer was cold though. Not sure whether I would play again

The fairways weren’t in great condition but there was lots of wildlife and we all enjoyed playing it. It’s been rebranded and looks like they will make improvements

Joined other golfers on the course and all had a good time around the course. Greens are on small side, lots of birds on water features. Free range balls on arrival before tee-time - you can hit as many as you like - groundstaff keep re-filling (other countries around the globe take note) Unfortunately no alcohol licence on 19th hole

This course is scattered with pine trees and large dark sand bunkers, very much a "desert" feel. In places you get a glimpse of the snow capped Atlas mountains. As a high handicapper I enjoyed this course.

Disappointing first nine holes were satisfactory but they have changed two holes on the back nine which is not an improvement and the course is scruffy. Will not go back again.

Nice course - quite wide fairways so forgiving but still challenging. You need a buggy or to pay cash to a caddie - you cannot hire a trolley without a caddie. We struggled to get cash out as the resort cash machines were all faulty so had to buggy every day. Considering there are so many caddies around the bunkers are not raked and there are lots of pitch marks on the greens. However we had a great time and really enjoyed the course.
