The Salgados Golf Course is a beautiful 18 hole set up in the beautiful Herdades Dos Salgados. The course is very different to other Algarve courses and has a distinctive links feel to it offering guests breathtaking views of the ocean and the surrounding scenery. 16 out of 18 of the holes contain water so accuracy is imperative when playing a round here but despite this the short nature of the course makes it perfect for a golfers of all abilities meaning it is the ideal destination for small or large groups.
Designed by: Pedro de Vasconcelos.
Open for play: 1994TEES
White: 6,714 yards
Yellow: 6,233 yards
Blue: 5,687 yards
Red: 5,201 yards
Signature hole: par 4, 1st hole
The signature hole is arguably the first, where there is no easy opening - golfers must thread the ball onto a fairway bordered on both sides by threatening water features. In addition to this, the beautiful par 5 6th hole is said to be on of the hardest holes in the game of golf with plenty of water lining the fairways and when the wind is blowing it can play very long. The 6,649 yard layout was originally conceived by Pedro de Vasconcelos, but has since been the subject of revision work, most notably by the Scotsman, Robert Muir Graves. The course has been sympathetically built into a protected wildlife area, where many rare bird species make their home. Salgados has a tremendous variety of holes, ensuring that it is an intriguing test for golfers of all abilities. Easily accessed from Albufeira, Vilamoura or the Western Algarve, Salgados can fit into just about any holiday itinerary for a golf holiday along the famous coastline.
When we played it was very windy. Quite common apparently as it’s near the coast and it has plenty of water hazards. So be prepared to lose some golf balls!
A good challenge , especially off the back tees. plenty of water to be aware of.
Course was in poor condition and the greens were terrible and undergoing major remedial work meaning it was like putting on a beach!! Course was also extremely slow a 5 hour round with far to many people being on course at one time
The course was generally in good condition. Though the greens had been hollow tined and sanded last week, they played fast and true. Lots of water!
Love this course... the only thing I don't love is that we have a fight every time to be able to go round as a pair rather than having to join up with people we don't know to make a foursome. But still keep coming back and will continue to do so.
The course itself was not tough, but the water was really weird.......it ate golf balls!!!!
This was the first time I played the course. The water was the big challenge. However I came second and only put two balls in the water. I think for our party it is too demanding. But I enjoyed the experience. The transfer form Salgados back to the hotel was 25 mins late.
This is a lovely course very picturesque with lots of water, would definitely recommend this course and will be going there again.
Course was very challenging, although still enjoyable. You need to be straight and manage the course or you'll need a lot of golf balls. We flowed well the first day but had a group of two four balls in front who must of thought they were playing the Masters and were really slow (not the courses fault)although perhaps more can be done to encourage groups to keep up with this in front. Overall a great time.
We found the course very difficult especially starting from the tenth tee which gave us the most difficult holes first. The course marshall was very annoying telling us to speed up. We finished in three hours fifty mins which is less than the target time. He upset everyone for no reason
Lovely course probably my favourite, lots of water and very pretty. Was challenging but as long as you were straight could reach most in regulation.
1st time here we would all like to play it again as it is a thinking golfers course not just a blast up fairway lots of water hence nickname water park worst pint of beer here otherwise fabulous.
no complaints wellrun golf course
A lot of water on this course so you have to be very accurate, the course itself is like a nature reserve a fabulous setting and well worth a visit.
Lovely course great and helpful staff would recommend to anyone take some golf balls though as you will lose a few but no complaints at all. well run club house friendly staff in the golf shop who were very polite helpful and not rude and ignorant like at the morgado the previous day thank you salgados golf course a great day was had by us all
The golf course was in good condition. Challenging with lots of water (especially if your balls are like magnets to water like mine!) The staff were very friendly and helpful. The club house was great.
Very enjoyable experience
Lots of water making golf a difficult chalenge
Course in great condition. Greens good. Facilities everything that Morgado was not. Top quality. Visiting golfers beware water! Lots of it on nearly every fairway.
Water on every hole, greens fast.
Very different from the ones we play normally due to many water hazards. Nice course, intersting to play and easy to walk.
Course was great, greens were immaculate, very fast. Lots of water around the course, which makes this course quite difficult. You need to be a straight hitter on a lot of the holes, especially the 6th! Took us around 5.5 hours to get round which was pretty slow, but you can't expect much more when the course is full. Couldn't complain about any of it.
This course is more of a "fun" course than a serious golfer's course. With some very tight holes, water everywhere and a strong wind blowing from the Atlantic it's difficult not to lose golf balls. The course was in good condition though and both of our rounds were enjoyable. Definitely a course to play on a golfing trip!
A lot of water ,have to hit fairways a testing course overall
Fun course. Still suffering a bit from winter. Greens good although loads of unrepaired pitch marks. Water an obstacle but not impossible. Not too long so fair for a wide variety of golfers.
A nice layout with good greens and plenty of grass. Watch out for the big irritable goose on the first tee ! The downsides for this course is that there is a lot of water on this course (not good for high handicappers)and is rather flat.
Cannot really make a proper assessment because of really extreme gale type wind, but course looked in good condition.
Lots of water! but still a good challenge, we played it after heavy rain so lots of casual water and flooded bunkers which slowed things down.
As a two ball, we were stuck between 4 balls, although a lady should have joined us apparently, so this was a little frustrating. Otherwise good course, fairly flat with lots of water.
How much water... Nearly every hole water comes into play, coupled with a very strong wind made it a heck of challenging day's golf. The course layout is very interesting and despite it being flat you don't get bored due to the excellent course design. The course was busy but it was rarely dangerous with stray balls due to the layout.
Really enjoyed this course lots of water and very tight
Water, water everywhere and all got massive magnets to attract my golf balls
Much improved course. A difficult test but an enjoyable challenge. Excellent weather helped.
lots of water and tight in places. Greens were the best all week and the course was the most enjoyable all be it the hardest. No range was a shame but was gorgeous
A much better course than the Morgado and Alamos. This was partly because the grass was not Bermuda and had not browned, but also because the holes were more interesting and more challenging.
The main challenge on this course is the water hazards. The greens were not in great condition, lumpy and uneven in places making putting a bit of a lottery.
Technical course with lots of water!
Very difficult with no real escape for a wayward shot.
Very tight difficult driving on all holes lots of water
This course is the busy of the 3 and due to the volume of players can take 30-45 mins longer to play . This is partly due to the difficulty ,a few holes with water and more rough ,Bermuda grass around the greens ,difficult to chip out of and sometimes difficult to find your balls.Greens are in good condition and a challenge to read .my favourite course out of the 3.
A great test of golf . I’ve rated it as HARD ‼️Mainly because of the amount of water all over the course . If you have a wide ‘slice’ or ‘hook’ you will be in trouble ( usually wet ) . But the Fairways are wide and a score is attainable for any handicap golfer . Again , good Fairways , Greens and bunkers .
Very nice course but difficult.
Lovely course had great viwes and great to have people selling cold drinks on the course and also the other causes the stuard chased the slow players
Enjoyed but very slow too many players
Having been appraised of a potential buggy availability problem (refer Morgado review),this dilemma was resolved through the kind intervention of the Salgados Dunas Suites reception staff. However, on arrival at the course , I noted that other groups were not so lucky and were faced with walking the course on a very warm day. Otherwise the course was enjoyable and met with expectations .
