Ombria Algarve is a premium sustainable resort in the heart of the Algarve, around 30 minutes from Faro Airport. It's a smart option if you want a quieter inland base with a proper championship course on site, plus easy access to the headline names on the coast.

You've got excellent variety within a short drive. Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura are both under 30 minutes away, so you can mix a strong home course with a couple of the region's established favourites without spending half your holiday in transfers.

On site, Ombria Golf Course is fair, scenic and testing in the right way. It rewards good positioning and tidy iron play more than trying to overpower it, so it suits mixed-ability groups. You'll find generous landing areas in places, but the angles into the greens matter, and if you miss your spot you'll have a bit of work to do.

Sustainability is a genuine part of the resort's approach too, with a focus on water management, habitat protection and ties to the local community. If you like the idea of a modern Algarve resort that takes its setting seriously, Ombria is well worth a look.

Ombria Golf Course

The 18 hole, Par 71 signature course was designed by Jorge Santana da Silva, who followed a sustainable vision to complement and enhance the natural landscape.

The two 9-hole loops are set in different terrain with the front nine playing out at the foot of sweeping hillside banks, golfers will find the opening holes an easy walk with contoured greens and undulating fairways.

The back nine starts with a breath-taking panorama of the course spread throughout an idyllic river valley. Playing along the twisting rivers and streams, golfers must decide when to cross or when to gamble and when to play safe.

Very interesting in a strong wind, which did negate the heat. No wonder you need a buggy! with some significant hills to negotiate. Seemed very difficult, perhaps with the wind factor, but managed 33 points on first time played.

Second time on this course, it’s our new favourite, having replaced the old course which had priced itself out of our budget range and has become too sanitised for our liking. Played most courses in this area this one will not disappoint
