Perched right on the beachfront in Los Álamos, the Occidental Torremolinos Playa puts you within easy reach of the seafront promenade and the wider Costa del Sol. You're only 14km from Málaga, close enough for a quick airport transfer but far enough to feel properly settled into the Andalusian coast.

For a Costa del Sol golf break, the location is a handy middle ground. You can keep the non-golfers happy with beach and pool time, then head inland for your tee times without turning every round into a motorway mission. Within an easy drive you've got options like Parador Málaga Golf, plus a strong spread of courses around Benalmádena, Mijas and Alhaurín, so you can build a multi-round itinerary with plenty of variety. If you're like me and you'd rather spend your time on the first tee than in a transfer queue, this location makes sense.

The great thing about this base is the flexibility. Do a morning round, grab a lazy afternoon by the sea, then clean up and head out for tapas, or stay put and keep things easy on site. It's not trying to be a boutique hideaway. It's a practical, well-located resort that suits golf groups, couples and families who want sun, straightforward logistics and plenty to do once the last putt drops. Needless to say, having the beach right there doesn't hurt either.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a beachfront base on the Costa del Sol with easy access to a wide choice of courses, plus couples and families looking to combine golf with sun, sea and Andalusian culture.

Who is it best for?
Groups and societies seeking a relaxed, well-located resort that balances golf, beach and nightlife, and anyone planning a multi-course trip who values a single, convenient base over boutique accommodation.

Accommodation at Occidental Torremolinos Playa

Set across a 34,000-square-metre beachfront site, Occidental Torremolinos Playa has 508 rooms and the sort of facilities that work well for golf groups who want everything in one place. Rooms are bright and spacious, with air conditioning, decent storage and a balcony in most categories. Many rooms include a sofa bed, which is useful if you're travelling as a family or you're happy to share and keep the trip good value.

Room choice is the key win here, especially for mixed groups on different budgets. You can keep it simple with standard doubles, then step up to family rooms or suites for anyone who wants extra space, without splitting the party across different hotels. The layout is straightforward: comfortable beds, proper storage, air conditioning and a balcony in the majority of rooms. Nothing overly designed, but everything works.

On-site facilities suit a classic Costa del Sol schedule: pool time between rounds, beach on the down day, then drinks in the evening. There's a large outdoor pool, direct beach access, a spa and wellness area and a gym for anyone trying to keep the shoulders loose before the next day's tee time. If you're planning activities beyond golf, the hotel also runs organised entertainment and has options like bike hire, though most golfers will spend their downtime either on the course or exploring Torremolinos and the surrounding towns.

Food and drink is straightforward and convenient. The main Mediterranean buffet covers breakfast and dinner with a rotating selection of local Andalusian flavours alongside international staples. There's also an à la carte restaurant for a change of pace, plus a lobby bar for pre-dinner drinks and a pool bar for easy lunches and post-round beers. It won't compete with Málaga's best restaurants, but for a golf trip it does the job, and the time you save on logistics is time you can spend actually enjoying the coast.

For golfers, the setup works because you can fuel up properly at breakfast, grab a light lunch by the pool between rounds, and settle in for a proper meal without leaving the property. If you're playing multiple courses over several days, that convenience adds up. Want to use Torremolinos as your base? We can build a Costa del Sol package here with tee times and transfers sorted.

We booked this on the teams recommendation. It was so much better than the Sandos Greco where we have used on YGT trips previously. It required getting taxis everytime we wanted to go into Torremolinas centre, it is simply too far to walk as it at the end of the strip. Our rooms were adequate but not the roomiest. Having our clubs with us took up quite a bit of space and our view was over the bin area which wasn't the most appealing view. We went on a B&B basis and breakfast was good. Bar staff and staff in general were pleasant and helpful. On the whole it was a great hotel but just too far out of the centre.

Lovely clean hotel right by beach but a long way from main town couple of nice restaurants nearby

Poor

Hotel: Facilities: These were ok, food was ok, could not get a coffee with your dinner in the restaurant as they closed them off, you needed to go out to the pool bar to get a coffee (strange). Drinks were ok as well, good selection of local spirits, you could only order two drinks per person, as a group of 8 it would have been nice to order a round for the group and not have to go up 4 times to get the round in. Rooms: The rooms were too small for two golfers to exists for a week, there was not enough room to place two sets of golf clubs in the room, you had to step over to get out of bed etc. The cleanliness of the rooms was every good, it would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Overall: In our opinion this hotel is not suitable as a hotel for golfers on a golf break, not set up for golfers, it is a family holiday hotel, there were lots of children. I think that you should seriously consider not offering this as an option for a golf holiday hotel.
