Santana sits in the hills between La Cala de Mijas and Fuengirola, with fairways threading through orange and avocado groves and the Mijas mountains sitting proudly in the background. If you like a course that looks and feels like it belongs to the landscape, this one ticks that box nicely. The routing makes smart use of the natural elevation too, so you're rarely short of a view.
Cabell B. Robinson designed Santana with a lighter touch than some modern resort builds, shaping holes around what's already here rather than forcing the terrain to behave. In places you're playing right through the orchards and, in spring, you may even catch a hint of citrus in the air, which is never a bad way to spend a round.
It's not a brute of a course on the scorecard, but it does keep you honest. Accuracy from the tee tends to matter more than raw power, greens are well protected by bunkering and the natural slopes can feed a slightly-missed approach into trouble. There's some water to think about as well, but the real challenge is choosing the right side of the fairway and leaving yourself the best angle in. The back nine climbs higher into the hills, offering some of the best views on the Costa del Sol, and the closing stretch rewards smart play over brute force.
Who is this for?
Golfers planning a Costa del Sol break who want a scenic, straightforward-to-enjoy round with enough strategy to stay interesting. Great for societies and mixed groups, especially mid to higher handicaps looking for a fair test without being punished on every hole.
Who is it best for?
Players who keep it in play and enjoy using slopes and angles, plus anyone who likes a 'real landscape' feel rather than a manicured resort stereotype. It's ideal for groups mixing abilities, couples looking for a scenic day out, and anyone who wants to experience a classic Robinson design without the intensity of a championship test.

Santana Golf
The course itself was designed by American architect Cabell B. Robinson, whose trademark can also be seen at the nearby La Cala resort, and is an excellent parkland track. Santana measures just short of 7,000 yards from the back tees, and the main difficulty is in avoiding the strategically positioned sand traps, which are filled with sand produced from crushed marble.
The outstanding natural beauty of the surroundings may well be the predominant characteristic here, but the golf course should certainly not be underestimated; each hole is designed to be distinct, and the emphasis is on sound course management and prudent strategy.
There may not be a single signature hole, but notable challenges include the monstrous 650-yard 8th, while the favourite hole of the designer himself is the closing hole, an exacting par-4 that is bordered by a lake all down the right hand side.
The fantastic quality of the layout, all encapsulated in an astounding natural environment, makes Santana a great choice during your golf holiday in the Marbella area.

Lovely course with good facilities and helpful staff. We were warned of possible crime on the course which is always good to hear having suffered from that in Spain. As a three ball we were disappointed to have had a lone golfer foisted on us, as it affected the flow of our personal competition element. A very flat course compared to most Spainish courses that I have played.

Bit of mix up re tee time. There was a golf society of 24 before us.Staff should have been able to ask them to let us out before them. They would have only had a 15 min delay.we were waiting 2hrs and 30mins and had to change our pick up time.
