Scotscraig Golfing Club

As a six-time Open Qualifying venue and Scottish PGA Championship host, Scotscraig has challenged the game’s finest players since it was founded in 1817.

Designed and refined by some of the game’s greatest architects including Old Tom Morris and James Braid, Scotscraig is golf as it was meant to be played: unpretentious, traditional, challenging, and true to the spirit of the game’s origins.

Scotscraig offers a strikingly unique challenge, blending traditional links turf with subtle heathland characteristics, and creating a layout that rewards precision, imagination, and thoughtful strategy. Fast, fair greens, impeccable turf quality and a timeless links setting create a round that feels both historic and contemporary.

Scotscraig Golfing Club

Scotscraig offers a unique Scottish golfing experience, as a timeless links course with heathland characteristics, where recent significant investment has led to thoughtful rejuvenation to suit today’s modern golfer.

Founded in 1817 by some members of the St. Andrews Society of Golfers (later to become the Royal and Ancient Golf Club) who wished to play more golf than the Society's occasional meetings afforded them, Scotscraig offers visitors an immersive experience in true golfing history, from the course to the Trophy Room in the 130-year old clubhouse.

The Scotscraig Gold Metal was established in 1818 and remains one of the oldest amateur medals still played for in the world, while in 1923, the course was redesigned with the assistance of James Braid, and though the course has been carefully modernised for today’s game, it still retains the original architectural intent.

This six-time Open Qualifying venue and host of the Scottish PGA Championship in 2023 and 2025 has long challenged the true greats of the game, including Sam Torrance, Jack Nicklaus, and Justin Rose.

Very enjoyable - didn't make us feel special like Panmure but course was great

A nice, simple municipal golf course. Overall decent condition - layout a bit odd with crossing fairways and tee boxes. Would not play it again simply because it is an average municipal course. But glad we got the chance.

Front nine seemed harder than the back nine. Very fast fairways due to dry weather.
