The OHL Classic at Mayakoba was the first PGA Tour event to be held in Mexico and has acted as a platform for the world to see just how good golf in Mexico is.
Before 2013 the tournament had somewhat of a low profile however after 2013 the OHL Classic rewarded an invitation to the Masters for the winner, FedEx Cup points and a purse of 60%, up to $6 million.
As the event takes place in November, many players are looking to get a head start in the FedEx rankings, adding extra importance to the weekend. In recent years, the winners have all gone on to have strong seasons such as Patton Kizzire and Pat Perez.

Weather for the OHL Classic at Mayakoba
The month of November is a fantastic time to visit Mexico, with an average of 9 hours of sunshine a day. The average temperature for Play del Carman is 25 C, with potential highs of 30 C, definitely warm enough to get the shorts on.
The closest airport to El Camaleon is Cancun International Airport which is just 40 minutes away. A taxi from the airport to East Lake will cost around $60. There are daily flights to Cancun from London flying with either British Airways or Thomas Cook.
The esteemed golf architect created a vision, and it was realised by carving an amazing course through the dense Mayan jungle. Just a stone’s throw from the shores of the gulf at Playe del Carmen, the 7,202 yard championship courses presents a stern test, but the natural beauty that surrounds will delight every visitor. Since its inception in 1994, Playacar has established itself as one of Mexico’s best, and should certainly be included in your next golf holiday in Cancun.
Carved into the indigenous flora and fauna, and through the natural wetland, the Golden Bear's creation is as beautiful as it is challenging. From the championship tee markers, the longest combination stretches to 7,165 yards, but there are tees to suit everyone, from professionals to beginners. Risk versus reward is the theme around Moon Palace, which includes nerve-jangling tests, not least at the signature 17th; the short hole is played to an island green, so its all or nothing!
