The tournament has been played annually on Wentworth's West Course since 1984. Prior to that the event toured the UK with the likes of Royal St George's, Prince's and even St Andrews hosting the marquee date on the European Tour.
The PGA European Tour is based at the club and that means the BMW PGA Championship is often regarded as the flagship event on the European Tour when played at the tour's home. Its winner is also given an exemption which allows them into that season's US Open and the next three Open Championships.
