Widely-regarded as one of the best golf resorts in Continental Europe, Le Touquet boasts 45-holes worth of golf and a European Tour pedigree. As a former host course of the French Open, Seve won here in 1977, La Mer (The Sea) is a classic links test for golfers who like the classic feel of seaside turf.

For a change of style, Le Forêt (The Forest) is a parkland affair but with dunes playing their part, you are still aware that you are on the coast. Le Manoir (The Manor) is a fun nine-hole course for the days you don’t fancy playing a full round.

Golf Courses at Le Touquet Golf

La Mer Course

Designed by Harry Colt, who crafted Royal Portrush, and Charles Alison, the La Mer course at Le Touquet Resort has hosted six French Opens. Like many Colt-designed courses, this course feels like it is just part of the coastline and has been since time-began. This course has been refurbished recently so there’s no better time to give it a shot.

This is the youngest course on the resort and, at over 7000 yards from the back tees, it is a good length. It is quite rare for a links to have so many trees and it makes this course very reminiscent of the Championship course at Carnoustie. With large green complexes, riveted bunkers and troubling sand dunes you won’t forget that you are playing links golf.

The course feels wild yet refined and will challenge golfers of all skill levels. La Mer is one of those courses that you know is top-quality from start to finish. A recent renovation to the course has included new greens and clearance of trees to open up some beautiful views of the coast. It is no surprise that it is ranked among the best in Europe and the history that goes with the course makes it an unforgettable golfing experience.

La Mer overlooks the wild dunes and the Channel coastline, and is without doubt one of Northern France's most prestigious destinations.

“If you love links golf, you will absolutely love La Mer. The course is in fantastic condition with some really beautiful holes framed by the surrounding dunes. It’s more open than many of the other courses in Northern France which will appeal to those who might spray it a bit off the tee. The course is more exposed to the coast so the wind is certainly a factor. Very impressive – an absolute treat to play.” - Mark Crossfield, PGA Professional

Signature hole-No. 12 (La Mer):

Par 4, 367 metres (SI 7

The signature hole at La Mer is a great example of the Links golf on offer at Le Torquet. From the tee, the hole plays to a narrow fairway, and with dunes either side, it is important to make sure the drive is in play. However, like many holes on La Mer, a strong wind coming from the coast on the left-hand side makes this a particularly challenging task. The approach shot continues in typical links fashion and is played from an undulated fairway, onto a green with a large runoff. This makes it particularly important to be precise with the shot, as 2 inches could be the difference between a good shot, and one which rolls 20 yards off the green. A fantastic golf hole featuring all the best traits of links golf!

La Foret Course

Built in 1904, this is one of the oldest courses in France and was designed as the British were popularising the sport across the Channel. This course meanders through impressive trees giving you a secluded and private feel as you play, or shielding you from the judging glare of other golfers if you are having a bad day.

Whilst this course is an easier affair than La Mer, it is still a great challenge for golfers and will test a different set of golfing skills than the links course. Le Forêt feels like a classic, well-established parkland course and is always in great condition!

The large oaks and pines shelter you from the inevitable coastal winds whilst adding a challenging character to the course. The difference in feel between this course and its younger brother on the coast is striking. Here you have a large side-helping of tranquillity to go with your golf.

"La Foret is a lovely tree-lined course. I was really pleasantly surprised. Much more parkland compared with the sibling La Mer, which makes for quite an interesting contrast. Both courses are very fair and make for a terrific test of golf." - Mark Crossfield, PGA Professional

Le Manoir Course

Playing nine-holes is becoming a more and more popular way of playing golf and Le Touquet Resort gives you a cracking course for those looking for a shorter round. This course is just great fun and if you’re travelling with kids or new golfers, it is a perfect place for them to play. If you’re a more experienced golfer then this course is one to work on your short game. One thing is for sure, it will leave you with a smile on your face.

Facilities

The golf may be over but the great experience is not. In 2016, the new clubhouse was opened and it compliments Le Touquet Resort perfectly. The Spoon restaurant offers a truly fantastic menu for you to enjoy and the glass-front lets you stare off into the course and relive the round you just enjoyed. You could even enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace as the sun goes down.

The locker rooms are modern and have everything you need for before and after your round. The pro shop is also worth a visit so you can pick up a souvenir of your trip to the famous resort. Buggies are available for hire as are trolleys should you wish to push/pull rather than carry.

Golf du Touquet has a dedicated short game practice area and a 20-bay driving range with both grass and artificial grass, while local caddies are also available on request.

How to get to Le Touquet

Located in the renowned golfing destination of Le Touquet, this venue is conveniently less than a 10-minute drive from the city center, making it an ideal location with convenient access from accommodations in the North West of France. Furthermore, it is only 3.5 hours away from London.

Very tough course, but absolutely loved it! clearly get the Harry colt vibes from this course, with was really fun. We happened to play when there was a competition on, so the pin positions were very tricky. Greens were rapid, so approach play was vital in order to score well. Despite the challenge, really really enjoyed the course, up there as one of the best in continental Europe.

No toilets on the course! Getting round 18 holes without a comfort break was too much! Unfortunately we got stuck behind a 4-ball who were slow. Again, the details for our booking were wrong as they only had 7 of us booked in and we were 8 but they were able to amend this without any issues.

The details for our booking were wrong as they only had 7 of us booked in and we were 8 but fortunately they were able to amend this without any issues. Very nice course in great condition. La Foret was an enjoyable experience and certainly an easier course than La Mer. There is a lot of work going into the greens and I suspect they will be really good in a couple of weeks. The par 3’s were long and tricky and the par 5 16th an outstanding hole. The first couple of holes were a little dull, but the course improved into the round. My wife, who plays off 14, really enjoyed the course.

Excellent
10.0

La Mer is a great golf course and gets more difficult the stronger the wind! The greens were fabulous and the fairways in great condition. The 16th and 17th have unfortunately had to be altered due to conservation and in my opinion made the holes poorer. The course is marshalled and a quick word enabled us to play through a slow group holding the course up. The staff in the shop and behind the bar were welcoming.

Absolute disgrace of a course. Awful condition. Greenstaff putting sprinklers on greens mid round and creating “temporary greens” read sticking a flag on the fairway with no attempt to cut a green Fairways terrible, greens worse Avoid

Poor
2.0

Totally disappointed with this course !! Tee boxes were in poor condition, the greens were extremely bad and in some places void of any grass (I have photos to prove this). Holes 12 and 13 were on temporary greens, which were just holes cut in the rough a long way short of the original greens. The greenkeepers were completely redressing the proper greens. The original course has been altered so much, it now incorporates part of the 9 hole Le Manoir, which I feel has messed up both courses. The course did not flow well as the tee boxes were all over the place, especially the really long walk between the 17th and 18th, having to pass 3 other tee boxes. I have played both of these course many times before in the original layout and really enjoyed them both, it makes no sense to me to make these alterations !! I will unfortunately not be returning to these courses. I would like someone to contact me so I can discuss this review in person.

Wide fairways and a fairly easy start that draws you into a good test. The back 9 gets longer with almost every hole requiring your Sunday best to allow a shot to the green. Quite a walk from the club house to the first tee (15 minutes). There is a car park next to the first tee of La Mer and I would suggest driving to there and parking. Have mage some changes to the last few holes so gos and stroke savers don’t reflect accurate yardages so be warned. A good test with some lovely holes and wide fairways. Challenging fast greens that reward a good approach.

It's an absolute treat to play this course. It has a grand feel about it and presents all of the challenges you would hope for in links golf. The greens ran true and were in good condition for the time of the year. As were the tee boxes and fairways. It was fairly quiet on the course so we could go at our own pace. The only downside was the reconstruction they were doing on the back nine. They had effectively closed down the 16th par 3 hole to rebuild it away from some properties on the boundary of the course. This meant they had split the par 5 15th into a makeshift par 4 with temporary green and a makeshift par 3 with temporary tee box. It is a shame not to get the full experience - although we could see the 16th par 3 as it is going to be and it will be a great hole. The back nine generally needs to grow back and shows signs of massive reconstruction so you miss the beauty of the earlier part of the round. Obviously, it will be for the better in the long run - but we only found out about it on the day. It would have been great to get a heads up or to have some kind of compensation for the round.

The highlight of the trip. An amazing course seeped in history. The holes were interesting fun and challenging. Slightly underwhelming. Obviously the drought summer has taken it’s toll on this course (as it has most), so fairways were very patchy. Greens were very challenging but not in great condition either. No real signature holes - a lot were very smart. Play was extremely slow - took 5 hours, but signage suggested this was normal! We tee’d off at 15.20 and had to play the last 2 holes in near darkness. Suggest they space out tee times more rather than packing the course. Buggies were expensive (EUR 45 for 18 holes). Like Hardelot, they have changed round a few holes and taken two off La Manior 9 holes and put those on La Foret. In the main its fine, but the 18th now is not as good a finish....17, 16, and 15 though do lend themselves to a good finish, and the 18th is now right outside the FANTASTIC new clubhouse so i can see why its been done. Again....very pleased to be back.

We did go and look at the course and the changes they have made look amazing. Taken a lot of trees and shub out....it looks a GREAT test. We did play the 9 hole Le Manoir instead.....my tip....when you travel out, dont play 18 just do the 9...or dont play at all and just practice and have a nice meal when you get there...then play the next day onwards. It was much easier going back so playing and travelling was fine.

Excellent links/dunes style course. Personally I preferred Les Pins, but the other 3 preferred La Mer. Completely different style of course, so a good one to balance out with Les pins. Weather was perfect for it (which I think biased the other guy’s ratings over Les pins). Superb club house. In the summer it would be great to sit on patio over looking le foret course. Be aware - La Mer course is a drive (or buggy trip) from the club house/pro shop. We carried our bags across from the hotel, and then had to carry back and reload to drive round to the first tee. There’s no shop or anything at the first tee of La Mer.. a little strange.

Great course which is easier than La Mer. Some great holes and always a pleasure to finish our holiday on this course. Happy to visit it again. The clubhouse has been given a major facelift (well rebuilt actually!) In so doing it has lost some of the 'comfort' and 'friendliness' of the old clubhouse. For example the baguettes were pre prepared and came out of a fridge. In the old days they were made fresh and were much nicer! Picky perhaps, but worth mentioning!

La Mer as a course has been updated and is now a long course, with large, undulating and difficult greens, which were not as fast when we played in early May as they could be in high summer. It is a great experience at Le Touquet, the new clubhouse is very welcoming and the staff plentiful.

Really nice course and quite challenging, particularly off the yellow tees. The reds are more forgiving. We weren’t made to pair up with other players as we were only a two ball which was a massive bonus. Unfortunately there wasn’t a Marshall present on the day we played and the local four ball in front became slower and slower which was frustrating. They were definitely not interested in inviting us to play through. Overall though it was a great course and we’d love to play it again.

We had a great time at Le Touquet. Only half and hour from Calais, it was dead easy to get to and the welcome was immediate and warm - they are clearly used to catering for the British travelling golfer. Le Mer was an excellent course to play. True, we couldn’t actually see le Mer from the course but that was the only low point. The course wound it’s way through a vast area of dune land (you could have easily fitted another course within the space) which meant to never felt pressured for space or time. For me, the course really grew on me as we played. The greens were excellent, the approaches strong; some tee shots were elevated to offer great views (none more so than on 18). Thanks yourgolftravel for making our trip happen!

Great course, and very playable for all handicaps although with the wind it can play significantly longer/shorter depending on whether you are into or with it. All 18 holes were good and offered different challenges - there were no boring holes at all - and the greens had some great undulations and ran very true. It is like the best of Links Golf in the UK (very reminiscent to Hillside GC, by Royal Birkdale). Reachable par 5s, some great but challenging short par 3s with crazy drop offs, and a number of risk reward par 4s. Thoroughly enjoyable round and would highly recommend anyone to play it.
