Designed by Nick Faldo, the Faldo Course at Amendoeira has quickly become one of the Algarve's must-play rounds. It winds across the resort's naturally undulating ground, so you're rarely hitting the same shot twice. Despite being one of the newer tracks in the region, it's regularly talked about among the standout layouts in Portugal, and it's easy to see why once you're out there.
This is a thinking golfer's course. The best scores come from picking smart lines off the tee, shaping the odd shot and playing to the right side of the fairway to open up your angle into the greens. The fairways roll and tumble, the greens have plenty of subtle movement and the bunkering is placed to catch anything a bit lazy. In other words, it's not just "hit it hard and hope". Faldo's design rewards patience and punishes lazy golf, the kind of layout where local knowledge pays dividends and a well-played par feels as satisfying as a birdie elsewhere.
The Faldo sits right in the heart of Amendoeira Resort, which makes it a handy base for a proper multi-course break. You're also well positioned for a wider Algarve golf holiday, with plenty of top venues within easy reach to build a memorable trip.
With the Portuguese sun overhead and the terrain doing the talking, it's a round that sticks with you, especially if you enjoy golf that rewards good decision-making over brute force.

Oceanico Faldo Course
The best British player of the modern era has a distinct design philosophy, as he seeks to present a challenge to every player; however, he achieves this not simply through extreme length, but by demanding that the golfer exercises some strategy and thought.
In a throwback to Faldo’s illustrious playing days, the golf course requires patience, prudence and guile, and with an extensive selection of tees, every golfer is well catered for. This prestigious development is a landmark on the Algarve and seems set to become a golf holiday star attraction.

We played this round 2nd and perhaps were more accustomed to the strong winds. Despite this being the supposed harder of the 2 courses, we played significantly better. The undulating fairways and elevated tee boxes made for good fun. Overall this was a fantastic, challenging course.

The Faldo Course is a serious test of golf and noticeably more challenging than the O’Connor Course. Several holes require long carries from the tee, often over 150 yards, and the hillside layout means accuracy and course management are essential. The 25mph winds during our round only added to the challenge, but it remained an enjoyable and rewarding course to play.
Course conditions were broadly similar to the O’Connor Course. There are some areas showing signs of wear and ongoing maintenance, but nothing that significantly affects play. It was also good to see that many of the older wooden bridges have been replaced with sturdier metal structures.
The golf carts are excellent, with GPS and accurate yardage information, and are clearly well maintained.
As with the O’Connor Course, there is no halfway house, leaving players reliant on the drinks cart, which is expensive for basic refreshments.
One issue that detracted from the experience was security around holes 14, 15 and 16, which run alongside a public road. We had been warned by previous visitors about items being stolen from carts in this area, and the resort’s own buggy GPS system displays warnings not to leave valuables unattended. While nothing was stolen during our round, the need to worry about belongings on these holes created unnecessary anxiety and took away from enjoying the golf.
Overall, the Faldo Course is an excellent and challenging layout that will appeal to golfers looking for a tougher test. The design, scenery and quality facilities make it well worth playing, although the security concerns and expensive refreshments prevent it from being a truly premium experience.

Course was great. Difficult but great. Pace of place wasn’t good at all. Nearly a 6 hour round

Been trying to beat this course for 12 years. It’s a long course and a buggy is essential. Course struggled a bit after Covid and it’s good to see it back at its best. Some work has been done over the past 12 months to make some minor improvements that has helped. Well worth considering but it is a challenge

Loved it. Very challenging. Well placed, and huge, fairway bunkers made you choose a range of shots and clubs from the tee. Greens were amazing, as were the views.
